Could God help us?

I will keep my opinion about the relationship/ratio between the religious belief and IQ, to myself (as it upsets many people and I don't want to do that on this forum), but I too agree with what DanB says. And I dream of a religionless world...

Where is Stu? Where is Coastman?

I also wondered where Stu was, but I was scared to ask. Because last time I asked, Stu turned the thread into a never ending "guess" game. I thought coastman was around yesterday; or am I wrong?

Research students are doin' it for themselves...!

I am with DanB. on this one. It sounds like they are trying to build their way up to becoming an organisation that is "eligible" to apply for the research funding directly. They will use the status of the University, but they will be against it.. I don't particularly like what they are doing. In the end they will become another organisation who controls the money.

If PostGrad Team don't have any problem with that, I am happy to a few more smileys. But I don't know the workload this would cause to their routine (i.e setting up the code etc.). I've made a laughing one and it looked more like a hideous-psycho smiley

exactly. And there are already many research students funded by "private sponsors" instead of government. I really don't see the point.

part time work, full time study: insanity?
4

chicamala, it totally depends on personal circumstances. If you are fully funded, then you can't really work more than what your funding permits. If you do, it affects the bursary. You can do freelance or vacation type of work but then you will need to do very good calculations for Tax reasons. You don't want to work more and end up getting the same amount if you didn't work.

Should I list a contributor on abstract, and how?

Thank you mc2006. I've submitted the absract this morning by adding the acknowledgement. But I'll speak to the programmer as you suggested. I might be able to amend that if the programmer wants otherwise.

Piglet, that's a good idea. It's better than my "ok, no questions today" solution.

Thank you PostgradForum Team // DanB, your design brief is very challenging

scamp, I hope you will get a bunch of very sweet and good natured 1st years, as students (which is very possible). Then your job will be easy. It's not like teaching at high-school at all. There will be lots of students who are there to hear what you have to say, not how you say it. If you are yourself, and if you are nice to them, they will be nice to you too. In no time, you will get used to the language. Sorry to lecture you at this silly hour of the night. I don't mean to. But you'll see everything is going to work out just fine. Don't worry

I think you should accept the teaching job at the Uni. You will get used to it after a while, and it will boost your self confidence. Plus it pays well (assuming you will get paid for it?). I assume you would be teaching undergraduates. Why don't you opt to teach 1st years, if you get to choose?
