What is your routine?

But some PhD positions require you to be at a lab (or a studio in some cases) between certain hours. What is your subject? Are you assigned to a project, or is it your own project. It is easier to convince the supervisors if it is your own project. I guess it is best to require the small print from the research office first, then approach your supervisor about your intentions.

Yes, when you go back to the thread by clicking the "Back to Messages" button on the Add a Message page, the smileys appear correctly with the path http://www.postgraduateforum.com/images/smiley_embarrased.gif".

When you open the thread from the main Postgrad Forum page however, smileys' path is "http://www.findaphd.com/students/images/smiley_embarrased.gif" which goes to an error page.

Depends on your agreement with the University scamp. I have been working from home for over a year now. And it works perfect. On my first year, I was at the University, working from an office, and sometimes from home. The rules on the paper suggested that I couldn't live more than 30 mile away from the University (or something like that). I had to move back to London (takes 3 hours by train to my University), so I thought my only solution was to leave the PhD. But my supervisors arranged a way out without losing my funding. I now go to the University once a month (sometimes every 2 months). Congratulations for getting the place scamp, good luck.

kc, I could see the ones on H's message, after you sent your message too. How strange. Then I opened a new window, just to see what happens. So on one window H's message had smileys, on other it had boxes. I would look at the source code but it takes me ages to work out what's going on, because I'm rubbish at it . I'm sure the PostGrad Team is much better at diagnosing these things.

Should I list a contributor on abstract, and how?

That's very helpful. Thank you Ann. Supervisors are on holiday. But what you say makes sense. I'll call the organiser tomorrow to ask about the guidelines (although she said in the beginning that there are no guidelines, it might be different for the acknowledgements section)

Should I list a contributor on abstract, and how?

Hi. I have a contributor who helped me programme something for my project. Now I am writing an abstract about this project to submit to a workshop. The contributor is not going to be involved in writing the paper. In fact, he is not involved in the project really. But I respect his work very much and what he did is very important so I will (and I must) mention him somewhere in the paper. Should I still list his name on the abstract as a contributor, and if yes, how (i.e next to my name, as a footnote etc.)? If not, should I mention his name inside the the abstract (just in case only the abstract gets published but not the paper)?

I think my browser needs to get used to them. What used to happen with the old smileys now happen with this two. They appear and disappear as they please.

part time work, full time study: insanity?
4

I was teaching undergraduates on my first year, but as DanB said my funding allows only 6 hours of work per week. Perhaps you contact your HR department to register to their Part-time lecturers' pool or something similar. The hourly rate is much better than working anywhere else in my opinion. You can also contact local colleges for part-time teaching.

I was busted...
