pea, have you actually ended it? If not, do you really want to leave him? The practical and materialistic issues are easy to overcome. But the emotional ones will be more difficult to handle. Depending on how much you have left on your PhD, can you not come to an agreement? I know it doesn't sound romantic at all, but if you have only 6 months left on your PhD, then perhaps you two should agree to continue as it is until you finish the most important part of your PhD.

quick, I think what Ann pointed out is the most important thing in this situation. "Does she have any supervisory role in your research..." In my opinion, if she has nothing to do with your research, what you do is nobody else's business. It sounds like early days, so it's normal to have that electricity, and it's not a bad thing. It might be a fling, or it might be a bigger thing. You can work this out in time. But if she is part of your research team, then it's a different situation, so your supervisor would have every right to stick his nose in it.

I understand in some PhDs the practice can be the whole process. In my case, it is the usual thesis + practice (involves setting up something that public can take part and producing a prototype of your idea)

I wonder if you can apply for some top-up grants for August and September. I remember seeing small grants especially for medical research. Have you looked at Welcome Trust's grants recently?

everyone suggests my plans are very unrealistic too, but I'd like to at least try. My funding ends at the end of August this year. So that will be the end of my 3rd year. It would be great to finish writing-up by then. I have only started writing. The main reason is, I had to do practice work as well as research and experiments (funding requires practice element).
