Thank you cellguy. I've finally heard from my supervisor and he was very understanding about the situation. I don't think I can ever be 100% happy with my work, but this time it wasn't at all in a state to hand in.

If you can justify the transition and how you arrived to the idea, then why not. You can also approach it as a transdisciplinary research.

I say "if".. Not because what people think, but because how it is like. But I wouldn't call myself negative.

I think, not taking it for granted and worrying a little that you might fail, would give you even more positive energy at the viva. Being a nervous and worrying that you might not pass can be a positive thing, it shows that you take it serious and you are aware of the consequences.

I wrote the posting above, before seeing your posts. That's sort of what I meant also.

although "when" makes you sound like you have a positive attitude, I don't think it changes the fact that it is actually an "if" situation. I have met a couple of people who failed, a few that were given MPhils instead of PhDs and 1 person who's been going on for the last 10 years as he cannot bring his project to viva level.

it's a tough decision chrisrolinski. If I may say so, you should invite your boyfriend but not your parents in this case. If they know you are gay and still prefer to pretend that you are not, then it's time they get used to do idea. I might be wrong (after all, it's not my place to say anything as this is just an anonymous conversation), and I don't mean to sound harsh. But they have no right to put you in a position to choose.

you can ask one of your friends who is only going to bring 1. I did that for a friend on my masters graduation. I only had 1 on my list, so I added his guest's name on mine too.
