make sure you get a long relaxing holiday between finishing the masters and starting the PhD. I didn't, and I regret that. The holiday I got before my masters degree was my last one (4 years ago). You may not be able to find time or money for holiday once you started the PhD. And congratulations for getting the place

But seriously, it is a great situation to be in. Not everyone's dream but still great comparing how much debt most PhD students end up having after 3 years.... Oxford/Cambridge level is also a bonus. Don't waste this by jumping at the first opportunity and create options to choose from for yourself. I reckon, you should register yourself with a head-hunting type recruitment agencies and see how it goes (if you don't want a job in academia).

shani,it is good that they specified minimum number of words as well. That's more useful. I think my institute is a bit rubbish when it comes to these things. Most guides and specifications are badly designed/created.

I can understand that. I feel like that too. It sometimes help to write down casual silly things that comes to your mind, things about what you don't mean to say about your research etc. After a while you find yourself writing again. I read that somewhere and tried it, it works sometimes.

I went to swimming for 20 minutes earlier this evening, and ended up staying there for 1 and a half hour. Another form of escapism I guess. A bit healthier but colder than the forum

I was doing ok until now. But I only have 5 months more of funding left, and I should finish writing up my thesis by September. I wonder if it's even possible. That pressure is so annoying.
