3-year funding ends soon / What about 4th year?

aliby, I got confused with that one too. My supervisor reckons I will need to enrol again if I can't finish by the end of my funded period, and pay fees as full-time student. However I remember reading about a small fee for write-up year only, which was about £200, nothing more than that. Now I can't find that paragraph on our research regulations booklet. I wonder if I remember a different university's regulations (I was offered studentship at another institution before, changed my mind just before enrolment).

Thanks Ann. I guess I could go back to teaching, or designing websites etc. But I was hoping to hear some great news here, so I could dedicate myself to writing-up full time. A bit silly I guess

Thanks for that H. I've found the UK General Chiropractic Council and it shows a few registered ones in my area. I'll email them, and see if they do any concessions for students.

Thank you very much for your reply lr261. It is very useful for me to read your experience and suggestions. I am a UK/home student. My supervisor said he could consider using what's left in my research budget to pay for my fees for the 4th year. Hardship fund is a good idea.

sorry to hear that H. I think it's better to take it seriously and eliminate the factors causing the neck problems. I know a few people suffering with serious problems and neck hernia due to ignoring the symptoms for years.

Hi. My 3-year funding is going to end at the end of August. I wanted to write up and submit within the funded period, but it seems less and less realistic every other day. My supervisor says my funding from HEFCE cannot be extended or re-applied for. But he's not clear about other options. Can anyone give me suggestions?

My main questions are:
- Which bodies I can apply to for funding for 6 months to 1 year max.
- What happens to IP
- Is anyone in a similar situation, looking for further funding?
- Has anyone finished within 3 years (including the 1st year and the writing-up)

I guess you are right Otto. Do you read looking down at your books at your desk? Apparently that is also bad for neck. I will try to change that habit and get one of those book holders that keep the book upright at monitor level.

Hi Postgrad Forum team. Apologies for double-posting this thread. I realised after posting that it wasn't really off-topic, and I would get more advice from the PhD Life section. Sorry again

... due to sitting in front of computer for years (and stress as my GP suggests). Who else gets these? What can you recommend? I've started swimming regularly, I hope it's going to help. I am now looking into ergonomic chairs but they are so expensive. I need to finish a chapter in 25 days and I can't stand the discomfort. Any tips?

I agree with Goods. People without kids will want to leave the kid's party as soon as possible anyway.

Which research field shall I choose? too confused

kingofdesert, I have to admit I find your question a bit strange. But on the other hand, it sounds like a very honest one. What was your first degree in? Did it involve any research? Did you enjoy that subject. If the answer is no, why not? Why are you interested in those areas that you mentioned? I think the trick is to start with a simple pros+cons list.

Thanks for this info driven2insanity. It made me understand why I've been feeling like this for years .
I found a list of further reading on this link, if you're interested: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impostor_Syndrome

I was wondering about that too H. I asked on another thread but didn't get a reply. It's been ages since she last wrote to the forum. I hope she's on holiday or something; and not ill or upset. How are you by the way?

Where to put publication(s) on CV

I think it would be better to have a new heading for publications and call it simply Publications, even if you have only one entry. As it is an academic CV, perhaps the Education should be first, then publications, then employment so on...
