Hello!
I have some data in excel and I need to select every other row. Other than going through and deleting every other row (which will be very time consuming, 10,000 rows of data) is there a way of doing this? I'm pretty sure there should be but I'm struggling to work it out.
Any help???? You'll have my undying gratitude!

Perhaps not the most helpful answer to your question but, if I were you, I would put in a formal complaint unless this person has a legitimate reason (I'm thinking bereavement or illness). You may also find that by rocking the boat a little it speeds up your rescheduled viva.
Good luck

My first meeting with my supervisor was very laid back. In fact, I've just looked in my notes (keep notes of supervisions is my first piece of advice).
Work since last supervision (this was my first sup but I'd been at the uni for a week by then):
availability of training
booking training
familiarising self with upgrade regulations and student regulations
attended induction
developing time plan for the year
Summary of discussion
Training needs agreed
Continue to develop time plan
Start work on literature review
By next supervision?
Develop a draft methodology for systematic review
Make contact with [insert key stakeholders/contacts!]
see [insert name of another expert lecturer within the department]
see [insert Research Managers name] re previous research in this area done by supervisors which wasn't published.
I also arranged all my meetings with both supervisors for a whole year. Try not to panic. Go along with your silly questions (I asked my supervisor if what I was wearing was appropriate...shame...) and you'll soon find out how the relationship will work.
Good luck

I should start this by saying that I have ended up back in the place that I grew up to do my PhD so not sure how valid my opinion is but here goes.
I love my family but I would never make my decisions about my career based on what my family wanted! Selfish? Perhaps...However, if I had wanted to move to Oz and my boyfriend hadn't, that would have mattered.
Go for it.

Hmm...well, I do my research in primary care and mine, a mixed methods exploratory study, is registered with the Primary Care Research Network (PCRN). I know that there's a cancer one. There are other ones too but can't remember them off the top of my head!

Why do you want to avoid an emergency loan? Universities have hundreds of thousands of pounds available in hardship/emergency grants and loans every year and these are never claimed by those in the position to receive them. I had a hardship grant (which I didn't pay back) during my undergraduate degree and an emergency loan at the beginning of my phd when my studentship money had been delayed by months and I crashed my car. As far as I'm aware this makes no difference to your credit rating etc...
Don't be worried about asking for help.

I didn't have this in the beginning.
HOWEVER...
I have just had my first article ever published and it was in a kick ass journal. At first I was ecstatic. Now I feel completely ridiculous. The idea that they have accepted my work is beyond crazy. The idea that someone might cite my work is even crazier! I honestly feel like I should call them and say, now, hang on a minute. Let's talk about this, my research is a joke.
Very very disconcerting when I think about how much faith I put in journal articles.

A friend of mine died at the beginning of this year when I was about 6 months into my PhD. I didn't tell anyone within Uni (except the woman in walked into my office and caught me crying) but I really really regret it now. I wish I'd told my supervisors. They knew something was wrong and kept asking but I just closed up completely. I wouldn't have taken any time out personally but I'm pretty sure my supervisors would have encouraged me to. It took a while to stop ruminating on it (it was an accident and so not at all expected) and this effected my work. I think if they'd have known why I was struggling to produce at that point they would've been able to help.
Hi,
I really struggle. Also in my second year but my PhD is in two phases the first of which finishes in January so I need to be writing big time now.
The thing I've found works for me is to do a plan literally paragraph by paragraph.
So, firstly Introduction. Within the introduction I have to say what the Introduction will address, a systematic review for example (paragraph 1), then define what a systematic review is (paragraph 2), then say why I need to do a systematic review (paragraph 3). I'm planning on doing this for every chapter because this is the only way I seem to be able to weave the story of the work (that's sounds very airy fairy doesn't it!!).
Hope this helps.

I'm across two Unis. Main sup at one, second at the other.
Second Uni wants nothing to do with me really. No e-mail access, computer access, building access or library access. I spend next to zero time there (2 meetings in one year) as I have no access! Was shocked at how little they were interested in me.
Now there's more PhD students shared across the two they want us to work as a team but as neither University wants to give students who are mainly supervised at the other access to their facilities it's never going to work. Very basic bureaucratic issues which as far as I'm concerned could be dealt with in less than a day but which I know will not be sorted while I'm studying.
Crazy.
