Welcome back Emmaki, hope the journey goes well - and yes, I agree, I'm a similar distance from London and it's definitely getting colder tonight!
And that sound slike great progress Lindalou, congrats on that!
I've made good progress today too. Achieved all my goals, including doing some data analysis I didn't think I'd have time for. And now I'm going to microwave some dinner, have a glass of wine and relax!
Woo, great news Ady, congratulations!
Button, sounds like you've been really busy and productive!
Lindalou, good luck with the work today!
I just had a supervision meeting and got good feedback on the chapter I sent them earlier in the week - useful suggestions and encouraging noises about having made good progress, which is always nice.
Going to have a relatively easy day today, I'm very tired. Goals for the day:
1.) Write up notes from supervision meeting and email to supervisors
2.) Sort out and print all info I need for residential training course I'm going on next week
3.) Run some some more tests on my data
Hi everyone
Got my chapter sent off to my supervisors yesterday, but didn't manage to send them the written-up initial results I'd also promised them. Supervision meeting tomorrow so I need to have something of the results to show them then. But I was so tired that I slept in, and I have to pop into town and do some jobs around the house as well as work today, so it's not going to be a massively productive day. Oh well!
Goal for today:
Run a final couple of tests, finish writing up results of initial data analysis before meeting tomorrow
Still struggling on with writing my chapter. I have to send it to my supervisors by 2.30pm and it won't be ready by then, so I'm going through and making notes about what will be included in the bits I haven't yet written, and trying to add in as much actual writing as I can before I have to send it. I don't feel too bad about not finishing though, it's been very useful to write as much as I have and I feel more confident about my ability to write chapters fairly quickly.
Anyway, back to it. Good luck everyone!
Hope you're close to finishing, Button!
Unfortunately I'd forgotten that I need to produce three tables for this part of my chapter, and they're taking a ridiculously long time to sort out, so there's now no way I'll finish today. Oh well. I'm going to do as much as I can today and then pick up again tomorrow - if I can finish tomorrow I'll still have time to look at my data analysis before Tuesday.
I only have about another hour of work left in me, though - I'm getting really tired! But a final push for that hour and then I'm going to take the evening off and probably catch up with friends down the pub. That thought makes me happy!
Hi Button! I hope that the thought of how lovely the laptop will be once everthing's sorted is enough to get you through, I really hate all that installing.
Half way through the section I wanted to get done by early afternoon, so feeling good...
Washes of motivation are good - I seem to have one today, which is great, as I'd really like to get the bulk of this chapter finished today so I can focus on writing up some data analysis for the next couple of days.
Anybody else working today?
I've already finished off one section of my chapter this morning. Now I have another major section to power through, but luckily I have some bits I wrote previously and some detailed notes, so there's not too much brand new stuff to create. I'd like to get this section done by early afternoon.

Oh dear Lindalou, I hope you manage to enjoy your afternoon off anyway!
My progress on this chapter is painfully slow, and I've finally admitted I won't be meeting my other half for a nice evening off tonight, it's going to be working late and then up early in the morning to start again. Boo hoo! :-(
But hopefully I'll get enough done so I can take tomorrow evening off and see my beloved! Yay! (He says he doesn't mind about tonight, he's going to stay in and watch rugby... awwww... Still feel bad about it though!)
I did too, hope all's okay.
Oh, it's great to see how many of us are submitting at a similar time - I've seen how helpful other similar threads have been previously, so I hope we can keep each other going and help each other over the various hurdles along the way. And then also celebrate each others' successful progress through vivas, if saying that doesn't jinx anything!
Oooh, shiny new technology is lovely.....
Hello everyone, seems like the thread is getting busy again as we all get back into the work - good stuff!
Today, I'm still working on the chapter that I need to send to my supervisors on Tuesday. I made good progress yesterday so if I can get into it today it might all just fly out of my fingertips, but I haven't had a day like that for many many months so grinding the words out slowly will do if it has to!

Sounds like you made some progress there Hailey, hope this thread helps!
And good luck to you too Lindalou!
Today, my plan is to just power through as much writing of my chapter as I can. I realised I've made a mistake with the structure so I need to fix that, and then hopefully it will flow more easily. Let's see how many words I can achieve!
Oh, actually yes, I agree with Cornflower, that's a much better way of looking at it, if you're not just backing up one single point.
Hi there. I'm at the same point time-wise as you, and yes, it's daunting!!
My supervisors want me to hand in in August, to have a September viva - seems over-ambitious to me, I look at how much I have left to do and just can't see it happening! But I'm aiming for that, with the knowledge that I can slip by a few weeks if I need to. My funding runs until 1 October so that's my absolute deadline for myself.
I'm not sure it's a good idea to compare progress with other people really - everyone does things in a slightly different order and needs to spend different amounts of time on different sections. But for the sake of discussion rather than comparison, where I am is that I still have masses of stuff to do - a huge amount. I'm doing data analysis from my main study and writing the analysis up alongside at the moment. I still have interviews to conduct, and another small study involving taking some measurements. I've got some very scrappy draft chapters written (Background, Lit Review, Methodology, bits of Method) but they need major revision.
Yikes, I've scared myself writing all this down, it seems like so much to do! But I know if I keep plodding on and knocking it down a chunk at a time I'll get to the end eventually. Looking at the whole thing is overwhelming, but seeing it as a series of linked tasks makes it much more manageable, I think!
