I just had a response from the first organisation hosting my study with feedback about my questionnaire - phew, all looking good. And tomorrow I meet the second organisation to discuss it too. Tense, but positive. So today my goals are:
1.) Respond to first organisation to finalise a few details
2.) Make final changes to paper version of questionnaire and print ready to discuss tomorrow
3.) Make changes to online version of questionnaire to get ready to launch with first organisation

I PASSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Pineapple that's brilliant news! Maybe it isn't strictly speaking a pass quite yet, but given the scenarios you had in mind before this viva you're in a great position now. And it sounds like you're fired up so that extra energy should help boost you through the rest of the process too. That's great - you're one massive step closer to achieving the PhD - fantastic news.

Ooh, good luck Pineapple, for determination alone you totally deserve a good outcome. Fingers crossed!

Oh yes, it's all totally understandable, and kind of endearing unless it gets too frustrating! Absent-minded professors everywhere...

Woo my first three goals are done and I've made major progress with the second host organisation for my study. Yay! Meeting them on Tuesday and if it goes well my data collection could start pretty rapidly after that. It's nice to finally feel things moving forward!

So now I just have to plan out the remaining work for the next two weeks and then design a poster. And then go to the pub and show off the lovely new clothes I'm currently modelling :-)

PS Sneaks, to disable chat on FB just click on the Chat bar, look under Options and put yourself offline. That has saved me so much stress!

Mine are lovely too, but they do keep forgetting things we've previously discussed. Like, that we've got a target date for my first main bit of data collection. The last five or six times we've met, they've asked me if I have a start date in mind, and we've had exactly the same conversation word-for-word about why Thursday 16 June is ideal.

Heh, I used to have that problem with FB, so I disabled the chat function. Otherwise I'd never get any work done!

Good luck with it today, anyway.

Yesterday afternoon was spectacularly unsuccessful, so I'm going to try to achieve more today. Starting with the things I should have done yesterday! Goals for today:
1.) Finish drafting out cover email for survey
2.) Email journal editor about reviewing
3.) Contact second organisation about progressing the data collection
4.) Plan out work for remaining two weeks before summer school
5.) Start designing poster
Hmm, that little lot should keep me out of mischief.

I hope you all have a go at the Google homepage guitar before the end of the day. It's been spreading round my office today, little strums being heard from different corners. Aaaaaawwwww.

Good supervision meeting this morning. Goals for the rest of today:
1.) Draft wording of cover email for questionnaire
2.) Reply to journal about request to be reviewer (woo!!)
3.) Plan out work for between now and summer school in 2 weeks
4.) Start designing poster

Hi Sneaks, welcome back!

I see you all approaching the end and I'm not surprised the Fear occasionally hits - I know I'll be petrified when I get to that point! (Yikes, only another year to go!) But you can all do it - you're all clearly very intelligent, committed and focused...

I've spent the last few weeks rushing around trying to meet some crazy deadlines, and it's looking like it might all work out, maybe. Paper written and submitted to journal, abstract written and accepted for conference presentation, poster designed and presented at university award evening, poster abstract written and accepted for another conference. And now it looks like the first bit of my main data collection will be going ahead in the next couple of weeks, assuming the first host organisation approve the final version of my questionnaire. Phew!

Goals for today:
1.) Prepare for this morning's supervision meeting
2.) Ummmm.... dunno. Look at the work I need to do and plan out the next stages I guess!

Oh no, sorry to hear that. Hope you find a suitable home for the article anyway!

I'm all prepared for this afternoon's meeting now, and don't want to read journal articles on a completely different topic before the meeting, so that's all my work done for now. Only an hour til I set off for meeting so may as well just mess around online until then!

Worked til 8pm, so got home from campus at about 9.30, which felt late enough! So I allowed myself a lie-in this morning and am just getting started on the day now.

Hope you find some good jobs to apply for!

Goals for today:
1.) Go back over redrafted questionnaire to identify areas to discuss with study host organisation
2.) Prepare for discussion of other issues with host organisation
3.) Go to this afternoon's meeting with organisation and hopefully plan out the data collection process! Yikes!
4.) If I have any extra time, look at journal articles for tomorrow's training session

Sounds like you are making progress whatever though.

I've found the papers I need for Wednesday's training, and have made some progress on editing my questionnaire. Still a lot to do before the end of the day though. I don't want to stay late, my head is throbbing and I'm very tired after sleeping badly last night, but I have to get everything done today in preparation for tomorrow's meeting, so I can't go home till it's finished. Boo!

Adequate funding for PhD
Avatar for Batfink27

I agree with KB, it sounds very positive - the same thing happened with my PhD. I had an interview for a PhD on a funded project but they offered that place to someone with more specific knowledge for that particular project, then they put an application in for me to get some departmental funding to do my own research project. It wasn't guaranteed that I would get the funding but because they were inside the department they knew how to give me the best chance. Anyway, I got the funding so am doing that PhD. But how likely that is for you depends on the department and where they're going for funding. But it's definitely a positive thing, so congratulations on getting so far, and fingers crossed that the funding is found!

Back to work after a few days of just messing around not doing much and going out socialising with my mates.... I think I burned out a little bit with all the crazy deadlines I had over the last few weeks, so a few days off were exactly what I needed. But now I have to get stuck into it again - and finding the motivation is painful now!

Goals for today:
1.) Edit questionnaire and produce new version to discuss with organisation hosting study in meeting tomorrow
2.) Identify three journal papers to take to training session on Wednesday
