I thought I would join you on the One Goal Thread because my deadlines are drawing closer and every day I am entering panic stage rather than making any real progress!

Today's goals:
Goal 1: Revisit chapter 4 of literature and make list of how it needs to be changed
Goal 2: Start making changes!
Goal 3: Update bibliography

Amber, I only have 5 months to go until my funding stops and am nowhere near a full draft so you're well ahead of me!! I don't intend to stay in academia either but the thought of being nearly at the end is keeping me going...just think, the sooner you've done your redrafting, the sooner you'll be finished and free to do whatever it is you want. Can you bring your submission date forward - working towards a tighter deadline might motivate you more?

Delta - it gives me hope that you wrote yours up in 6 months! Am hoping I can do more or less the same! :-)

Well the writing didn't really happen today. I have managed to get a plan done for the section I wanted to write and have done most of the lecture for Friday. Will have to shut myself away tomorrow to get some writing done I think...

Well done on finishing your qual analysis chapter. I've been struggling to get anything substantial written/finished of late although that autumn deadline is creeping up incredibly quickly so I really need to stop procrastinating and get a wriggle on. Am just trying to take it one day at a time and not think too much about the mountain that still needs climbing...

Hobnobs and tea helps everything, I may have to stock up myself! :-)

How's everyone else doing that has an autumn deadline?

I've hit a stumbling block with my writing up and am severely lacking motivation so thought I would start using this thread to get me going again...

Today's goals:
1) Plan next section of chapter
2) Start writing the section of chapter
3) Plan lecture for Friday (although this can wait until tomorrow)

And I need to do this without looking out the window because it is a gloriously sunny day here :-(

My supervisors are exactly the same. Every meeting I have with them lasts less than half an hour and they never ask to see anything/anything I forward they don't read. In one meeting, one of my supervisors brought the chapter I'd sent him 3 weeks before with him and started reading it in the meeting - got 2 pages in and said it looked fine! What a waste of time.

I'm now in my third year, am writing up and redrafting but feel like I'm doing it all blind to be honest. They've said not to send them anything until I have a substantial amount - i.e. 3/4 chapters at once - even then I doubt they'll read it! It's not very motivating for me either as I'm having to set my own deadlines and often lack the motivation to crack on with it.

I don't know what to suggest really - I know that raising concerns with your supervisors isn't always useful - it didn't help me! All I can say is that you're not alone. I find looking at other theses in my field quite helpful to establish structural issues etc.

Perhaps there is someone else you can find in your faculty to look at your work? Or as Delta said, maybe some peers?

I'm still slaving away at my desk too - I'm currently redrafting my methodology and it's taking a lot longer than I thought as I'm having to rewrite and add loads of stuff - I might as well have started it again from scratch!

I'd have written all my notes in organised word files so I could copy and paste bits of them! I'm in the process of writing up now and I have notebooks all over the place and am spending half my time looking for bits and pieces and copy typing! It's very annoying!

Hello, how are you all doing? I've had a horrible bug for the last week so have been bed/sofa-ridden...finally feeling a bit more human though so am hoping to crack on with some decent writing over the rest of this week.

Good morning Purpleflower and everyone else out there!

Yep, I agree with all those feelings- daunted, overwhelmed, scared! At the moment, I'm trying not to think about the Autumn or the deadlines or the number of words I still have left to write - I'm trying to just take it one day at a time! (Although if I one more person says "how's the PhD? you're nearly done aren't you?!" I might kill them!!!!)

Today I'm revisiting my methodology chapter (just to have a break from reading results and trying to find something meaningful to say!). I left some quite big holes in my draft methodology about epistemological and ontological issues which I'm hoping to fill...I tried looking at it yesterday but my brain got a bit scrambled. Still, I'm camped out in the library and have a strong coffee...

I was just wondering how everyone's progress was going for those hoping to submit in Autumn?

Despite my best intentions, the last week has been a bit of a write off - things just seem to be cropping up left, right and centre and before I realise it, it's the end of the day and I've barely done any PhD related work - grrr! It's soooo frustrating!!!

The library at uni is also in the middle of a refurb which is driving me up the wall as it's either really noisy or the books I need have been relocated! Grrr!

Apologies, just needed to vent!!!
