Hi OA17,

I can't help much as I'm not familiar with your research field. However, I'd think you should first look at currently available jobs around UK and Europe and then determine whether the research group/institute would be suitable.

Maybe you can look into the Rankings for UK Universities to see where they stand with Plant Research (I don't know one for Europe) :

Funny, I just went to a training program for researchers where they told us that we should dance our PhD like in some sort of ballet! Thankfully I didn't have to do that in-front of the class but apparently it's encouraged to be able to describe your PhD in a dance! :p

Hi everyone, I'm bored (the 'I have work to do, I just choose not to do it' bored!) so I thought let's form a story. Everyone gets to say a sentence. You can go as many times as you want but it'll be more fun if you leave a gap for the next person to go before you go again. I think it'll be fun if we make the theme research related too! So I'll lead:

Vitae is a good website for PhD students and Postdocs. A couple of links are on their website:

Totally Ashamed

Hey,

Everyone deals with research differently. You love your research topic so you need to accept that it needs to get done otherwise you'll lose it for good. Check your email, the longer you leave it, the worse it'll get, plus you'll know where you stand with your research. Then I'd suggest you arrange to meet your supervisor. Explain your situation to him/her, they're there for you if you have any problems and your supervisor will appreciate it when he/she knows you still care about your research.

Best of luck and stay on this forum

The One Goal Thread

Okay, I know it's a 'One Goal' thread but I have 2 (heehee)

Goal 1 - Re-organise my documents folders - it's a complete mess, I have repeated papers saved and un-named neglected stuff (not looking forward to that so glass of wine might be handy ;-) )

Goal 2 - Sleeeep!

Not a very helpful reply from me, but I couldn't gain access to the paper as well. Have you tried to see if your library stocks a hard copy of this paper?

Awkward situation with team-mate!

Oh why am I so tempted to reply?! I usually don't respond to trolls but here goes:

Dispatcher - Just as you don't want PhD Smug to have that opinion of you, you shouldn't form an opinion of KB or anyone else here. If you can't say something positive, don't say anything at all. Everyone is entitled to an opinion but not when they offend others.

Here's a good game for you, see how many on this list applies to you: http://www.postgraduateforum.com/rules.aspx

First year worries!

I feel EXACTLY the same way. I freak out constantly that I'm not working as hard as I should be. Some people I know, come in from 9-5 but that's too difficult for me; I'm usually in around 11 am. I go to sleep thinking about my PhD and wake up thinking about it so I feel I think more than I actually do anything. I don't spend 10 hours on it although I freaked out when I first heard that some people do! I think everyone works differently, so we shouldn't base our production on the number of hours we did.

You're on the right track and your supervisor is happy so try to relax.

P.s. a good website for PhD students is this: http://www.vitae.ac.uk/researchers/1218/Postgraduate-researchers.html
