I am ditto but perhaps ditto+ as i don't think its sad at all :-)

I enjoy it, really i do.  On Christmas day, post food and post Queeny... I even read a few chapters of a book I cited when i hadn't read it all -- yes i know you shouldn't do that but ....  i call them my guilt books.. i have about 5 of them in total.

I've done something every day over the Christmas break, not hours and hours but a few probably..

I didn't tell anyone on here that I'd submitted because i felt really flat and certainly didn't want to come on here moaning about submitting - i thought I'd be virtually lynched .. can you imagine? :-)

It is an odd,  but nice feeling, and yes you're right I am reading Jojo and others' old threads for hints.  they're fantastic to read.

When is your viva Dunni, do you know?  Mine is March. How is your prep going ?  I plan to start my prep mid January, after I've submitted this journal paper.   I've bought the two books recommended on here, and after having read so much on here.. i feel i know what to do ... a good start ;-)

Hi all.
Just want to join the we're all working over Christmas gang.  I submitted just before Christmas, yahoo, but haven't really stopped at all as I have a journal deadline looming. I'm must confess to being concerned about stopping, else i may not start again.. imagine what real life is like ;-)  All interacting with "normal" people and everything :p

Can't offer anything bar sympathy, not even empathy as i have been very lucky with my sups.

Have you / could you try speaking to him, telling him how you feel ?  Just being honest in the way that you have above, concentrating more on personal aspects than practical.  Could try asking him how did he feel when he was doing his PhD, see if he can cast his mind back. 

The way you feel is absolutely right and justified - unless he's a complete robot he's bound to empathize a bit .. isn't he ( or is this just too optimistic)

The answer to this depends upon your field and your sup. In my case, the thesis is the only requirement. Publications are a happy by-product. This will vary.

As below, unless you're doing a collaborative project your work will be largely on your own.

The main relationship you will need to manage is with your supervisor, this makes a massive difference. If you get that right, the rest of your PhD will be much easier.

I would ask your sup this very question, if you haven't already. It will show you are keen to be part of the team and not only concerned with your progress. Its a good sign of things to come I think.

Tell sup and then give bare minimum - or nothing at all.

There is nothing worse than free loaders.  Make me so angry.   :-s

One of my potential viva dates was 1st April - my sup .... "I thought it was so apt" . Sup was joking ( i think ;-) )

Very sorry to hear about your family circumstances, must be incredibly difficult to think of anything else. Makes you realise no matter how hard, how much effort etc.. things can just happen.

I think i bought it from amazon.. wasn't the cheapest one ( about £100) but was robust, sound quality was fabulous and easy to transfer from recorder to PC. All the best with your interviews, enjoy them.

Hello all. I'm hoping beyond hope to submit next week - if sup gives final all clear.

I've searched about the forum and can't find a thread that we all hope we'll need one day - the list of last checks before submission.

I'm ok on looking for the usual suspects like typos etc - although how easy is it to miss once you're reading it for the Xth time.

So, what i'm looking for is the 'odd' things that you may not think to check .. the 'you'll never guess what I forgot' stories.

There are two specific questions thought 1 ) do you write the acknowledgements in the first submission ? or do you wait til ( the hoped for ) final version ? 2) stupid question maybe but do you put the date of your first submission on the front or do you leave blank as this is updated later.

Back to reference checking - nightmare :-(
