I would contact them - it sounds like your fees would be paid. They've probably forgotten that Belgium is in the EU :p

Don't worry too much, everyone makes mistakes! :-) It's a steep learning curve, and we're not expected to know everything or get everything right.

Do you sit down and plan your experiments through before you start them? Is there any way that you could go through them with someone before you start to make sure that it's all planned out ok? :-)

Well, I think your chances of lecturing are better with a PhD than without one! :p

Don't worry about age, you're still young! I started when I was 21, and I felt too young throughout my PhD! :-)

Ability to work independently, but also as a team player when needed
Ability to communicate research to a scientific audience, but also to non-scientists
Position of responsibility and leadership (e.g. when helping out undergrads)
Ability to plan and organise experiments
Time management
Ability to solve problems....
