I can't be bothered to do my PhD.........

me too. I've done virtually nothing in the past few weeks, I don't see the point to be honest. I could and should have been done by now, but I have absolutely no motivation to finish this :-(

Which school
C

It's kinda complicated :-)

Most of my primary years were spent in a German school in the UK, which was private (because it was German, but it didn't cost anywhere near as much as a "proper" independent school over here would cost). After that I had 4 years at a pretty standard comprehensive, which has gone way downhill in recent years. I did fine there, and plenty of people have gone one to uni though I doubt we had many Oxbridge applicants! Anyway, the school had no sixth form so it's hard to say what people did afterwards. Probaby a fair share went on to leave school at 16.
Then went to a big college for A-levels and I hated it. I think I could have done much better at a sixth form, or smaller college. It did prepare me for uni though! I don't think going to a state school necessarily held me back - in some ways it probably helped to get into uni (I had a university give me an interview, I didn't turn up and they still offered me a place. What's the point? - they'll do anything to increase their students from non-independent school backgrounds)

Has anyone just done... nothing?
C

Me. I have been writing up since August and have managed two full chapters. I'm a total slacker. I have 3 good days and then 2 bad weeks. My thesis just makes me want to cry :-(
I don't have a job, or the confidence to apply for one. I have had all the time in the world to write for the past few months, but I'm just wasting it all on the internet or watching daytime TV... :-s

Structure of a PhD
C

Hi, I doing a biomedical PhD in the UK and I didn't study for any modules during my PhD. I just did research. You study all year round, i.e. you don't get the long summer holidays that you used to get as an undergrad! My uni was closed over Xmas/New year and easter though, so I took most of those days off ;-) (apart from having to look after cell cultures...). You also tend to get a certain number of days of holiday per year, at my uni it was 25 days.

What a sorry state

I'd be more tempted to turn said avocado into guacamole and serve with copious amounts of sour cream, salsa and tortilla chips. :p

Surely a situation like that would be against university regulations anyway (at least at my uni, it says so in the handbook).

If my boyfriend supervised me I think I would last about a day! :-)
