There are a few papers I need from this journal and I've had no response from the authors :( If anyone has access I'd be really grateful!

So do you need to do a whole new literature review, or can you use parts fof your initial research?
How many words will your review be overall?

Do you have any other MA students, or perhaps a welfare tutor you could see? (welfare tutors would normally keep the fact you've visted them confidential)

I'm not sure it matters that a chapter is a couple of thousand words. I think it matters more that your thesis is 'nice' to read for your examiners, and having a clear structure will make it read more nicely. Seems like giving the conceptual model its own chapter makes sense, so I'd say go for it :)

I don't really know anything about Kendall's W but a quick search on google scholar has come up with quite a lot of articles that have used it. I'm pretty sure it's well known as it's offered in SPSS :)

Flounder77, sorry to hear you're panicking. I hope things improve. Not sure of they'll help but there are a few things I find helpful.

I''m quite prone to panic at times I find that exercise really helps. Not only does it channel my anxiety into a positive direction, but getting out of the room and away from a computer really helps my thoughts flow.

Another thing that I find helps is to say what it is I'm investigating out loud. This process helps me to refine my topic/focus my ideas. It might help you to reframe your topic.

Otherwise I agree that you should go to your supervisor. I don't think you will appear weak and needy because seeking support when you need it is a strength of a good researcher :)

The thing that's taking up lots of time for me at the moment is linking chapters together, making sure I've been consistent with terminology and trying to ensure it's all coherent. Also I'm finding with my discussion chapters that I don't know where to stop...I feel like I could take my findings into so many different directions but that would mean writing thousands and thousands of words that I don't have.

I'm noticing lots of things with regards to the research that I could have done a lot better. Oh well...it's all going to go on the 'what not to do' list for my post-PhD research!

Sounds good Purpleflower! How are you coping with motivation/stress?
I have to submit by mid-Sept now! Want a full draft by the end of July. I have drafts of 7 chapters, need to write 3 from scratch. And then do a hell of a lot of editing... Felt very panicky last night but think it's better for me to stop worrying and just DO IT :)

Hi all
I recently got a job that I can move into when my PhD is done, but I'm unsure if I've bitten off more than I can chew! It's a SENIOR research fellowship, and I'd be moving into it as soon as I've submitted my thesis. I've had no experience of research apart from my PhD and wondered what your opinions were on whether I should take the job or not. Great for the career, maybe not on the stress levels...any comments or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi! I don't really have any tips about how I write best...I think it depends on the day! But I'm also hoping to get a first full draft done by July (to be more specific, end of July, to submit hopefully in Sept), so I feel your pain!

have to write an intro chapter too-pretty much from scratch, though I have some rough drafts of it; another (short) chapter from scratch; rewrites of all the other chapers, and the final discussion from scratch. I'm aiming for a chapter a week (with a bit more time for the final discussion chapter).

I think using the one goal thread will be useful!

I've put on a stone in a year. Not good.
Makes it even more horrible when I've achieved nothing with work knowing that I'm also getting fatter, less healthy, more spotty.... sigh.

I wish my PhD was in..fitness training or something. (I'm sure such a thing exists somewhere...)

Purpleflower, you're right...all targets seem to need a week of contingency time! No idea where all the time goes :(
I'm writing up but still need to analyse my quantitative data...really hope it all goes to plan. If not, I'll need to collect more data.
I've had a few days off and I'm back today, and have spent the past hour or so basically crippled with fear (or something less dramatic), aargrh.

Sorry to hear you're in a stressful situation!
My supervisor left half way through my PhD but has remained really supportive, even though she's now working in a different city. Since thesis drafts can be sent by email, she's been able to send me comments on my work electronically, and will come back to my uni each month. I've also gone to her city to visit her there.

It's likely that your supervisor will be a little busier than usual, but she won't have forgotten about you, and even though she is at a different university, I assume she will be contactable by phone or email. Maybe you could speak to her and arrange a definite way for you to maintain contact. You could both decide on days from now up until you viva when you can talk by telephone or Skype, or even visit each other.

Rememember, there's no way your supervisor would want you to struggle, so it's in her best interests to make sure you get through the exam :) :)

On the positive side, you now have a contact at a different university, which opens up a whole bunch of new opportunities for you for after your PhD :) :) :)
