As far as I am aware, for direct entry into most, if not all, MA / MSc programmes you need at least a 2:2.

However, some universities run, in certain subjects, a PGCert programme (first third of an MA / MSc) with little / no entry criteria which, if you are successful in will then allow you to continue on to the MA / MSc.I'm not too sure if there's any of these that run in accounting or finance but might be worth searching / contacting people.

I guess part of the problem is that philosophical assumptions are so contested. Different books seem to refer to different things in different ways. I've seem positivism labelled as an ontology in some places and as an epistemology in others.

I guess if your using mixed methods, your doing this with the aim of generating different aspects of the social world? If so, and if my understanding is correct, you would be some sort of realist. And there are many types of realism... Pragmatic realism, perhaps? I think this is what Paul Atkinson (ethnography) advocates.

Do you actually have "no research data"? As in, you've not been to your field site, you've not spoke to people? If so, there is a chance that you will get caught and I would not advise making up data.

Or, do you mean that you do not have the research data you want? If so, all is not lost. Perhaps you could write about the methodological problems? Besides, some people get a PhD out of a very small amount of empirical information. So, did you at any point get to speak to the Head of Graduate Studies from the central offices of your university (ie.from outside your faculty)? Or has everything always been mediated through your GSA? If the latter, I would think about getting your GSA to arrange a meeting for you with your Head of Graduate Studies from the central offices of your university.

I would be interested to know what other people think too.

Have you considered either intercalating or having a 'year away from the university'? I believe most universities have to look favourably on intercalation requests for financial and / or health reasons. Could you perhaps say you've run out of money / need to recover so wish to intercalate.... and then while intercalating perhaps you could also make some alterations to your thesis?

Jobs wise, I guess it depends what you want to do. But there are lots of Teaching English as a Foreign Language jobs at universities in Korea, China, Taiwan etc. where you would only work about a dozen hours a week, have enough money to live off of and time to complete your thesis.

To the best of my knowledge neither Warwick, Manchester nor Lancaster, all of which the FT ranks as in the top 50 business schools in Europe, require GRE / GMAT.

Isn't GRE / GMAT only a requirement for American business schools? So, I guess that means Finance isn't necessarily ruled out?

If your doing a smaller n study, it normally means that there is a need to be more methodologically aware. So, 5 / 6 case studies is great but you should, just as everyone should, be wary of claims to generalise. Case studies might be more of a methodology than method per se. Using three methods + is good as you can hen write about triangulation.

There are *loads* of studies / PhDs / monographs that are based on only one case-study. I'll cite you just one example: Working for Ford by Huw Beynon. I'm sure this is covered in core business research textbooks (Bryman & Bell, Easterby-Smith etc.). But as a general rule, if you offer less depth, you need to offer more depth.

Regarding research methods, will you be looking to use other research methods? Primary documentary analysis? Secondary documentary analysis too? All this will add richness and depth to your case-studies.

I'm assuming there's a reason why you won't be going to your chosen country.

Just as a little aside, as a post-graduate forum rather than a lecturer's forum, I'm guessing most people on here aren't doctors yet.

A DBA is not a PhD, although a DBA is a doctorate.

If you are looking for a career in academic, many, many institutions will prefer a PhD rather than a DBA.

Do you mean the external moderator or second marker? If it's the second marker who has moved your grade 5% either way I don't really think this is a cause for concern, especially in a a discipline like politics and you are still within the same grade boundary (A / Distinction). In our department, for example, the second marker is encouraged to mover the marks about a bit as it signals to the students that the lecturers actually read their work.

Birkbeck is considered the better university, but the Middlesex HRM Master's is CIPD accredited whereas Birkbeck is not. If you're are looking for a career in HRM obtaining CIPD Graduate membership is really important. If you're looking for an MA HRM in London I think LSE and King's College are considered the best.
