Where do I start??

But worth contacting the Sup first INFORMALLY before any official application, then they will tell you if you don't know what you're talking about. Great time saver.

I'm still in the prelim stage of thinking about a PhD...My question is : where do I start? Literature review? Contact potential supervisor? Sorry if this question has been asked a million times before!
Oh I'm in Australia and wanting to focus on English lit.

THINK OF AN AREA OF RESEARCH THAT HAS NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE OR A NEW INTERPRETATION THEREOF. THEN Contact Sup with it first. When you eventually start, the lit review will be the first thing /s/he/ gets you to do.

Anyone ever had problems with ineffective feedback from a marker/supervisor... ?

If you start a thread on here you do so in the knowledge that you will receive replies that you do not agree with. But NEVER imply that someone does not have more of a 'right' to reply than you have to post.

Not accepted from more than 12 applications

That's the usual way of things, discussion with a potential supervisor as to the merits of one's research proposal prior to application. Quite possibly the OP is under the mistaken impression that one is automatically accepted into a PhD due to qualifications, rather than to the contribution it would make. I would be interested to hear more regarding the masters-level publications too; it is also possible that they do not carry as much weight as the OP believes (e.g., self-published, non-PR perhaps?)

One tip would be to frame everything in positive language. If you can't find anything positive to say then your probably shouldn't be marking their work.

question about consent Forms

That should be answered in her T&Cs, or ethics handbook. It's likely though that the results must be discarded- not because any harm has necessarilly been done but because the institution may not feel itself covered.

Then he (the 'marker'- like a marker you have at school?) is at least assuming you understand English. Is that the query?
