munching on whatever is around me= have put on a stone in 4 months= very, very bad :-(
Hmmmm I watch enormous amoumt of films and generally rely on my other half to keep track of titles as I'm hopeless
I've loved: - "The ladydkillers" (b&w version)
"Kisses"
"Eagle versus shask"
'once"
"persepolis"
"goodbye Lenin"
"white christmas"
Wally and UP are two grear recent kinds movies, and I can't remember the director's name but he did "Spirited Away", "Howls Moving Castle" and a few more interesting ones
Now. I've realy annoyed myself as I can't remember the names of the ones I really like
:$
maybe Ill ask when he gets home from work :-x
I have a meeting with my supervisors coming up and have been working on some things that we discussed at the last meeting. Basically, I came up with some of ideas for some work for the project. The issue that I'm looking at is quite complex with lots of authors saying contradictory things. So now I've 2 documents, a short summary of my ideas and a longer doc detailing why I've made certain decisions, full references etc (basically a lit review for this part of the project.
My supervisors haven't asked me to send them anything so basically I'm wondering if it looks pushy if I send them either 1 or both of these docs before the meeting?
Obviously, I'll have a copy of the summary doc with me at the meeting as I wouldn't remember important details otherwise :$
Still procrastinating 14 hours later :-s
May give up and have a nice glass of wine and watch some rubbish tv - sounding verrrry appealing right now!!
Well I had a full day of work planned for today but.... it finally stopped raining so I took the dog for a long walk and now I feel really full of energy and happy for the first time in ages!!
Just time for two hours of work then am off out to dinner with my lovely, patient boyfriend :-x
There'll be plenty of time to catch up next week, fingers crossed!!
Hi 4Matt
I've been having the same problem and have ended up just entering them manually.
I's sure there must be a way to import them properly though I haven't figured it out yet.
Sorry I can't help.
EV
Pink Floyd works for me!! Not too many lyrics so not too distracting :-)

Hi Everyone,
Thankyou for taking the time to show your support - it really has meant alot. I've been re-reading them all for the last few days but haven't replied up until now as just felt too embarassed to log in :$
I wrote that post (all five words of it!) in a particularly down and self-pitying moment and still feel of my depth daily. But I think I've convinced myself that although I mightn't "get it" today, there's every chance that I might tomorrow.
Walminskipeasucker, you hit the nail on the head right here

And it seems like you need to be so smart, like you need to know everything concerned with your subject. That in turn makes you think: how can I know everything? How can I even begin to start writing about things when I don't feel I understand what I'm writing about too well and/or am unsure that I can even write well anyway? "
I think it's easy to get confused and disorientated when there's a whole world full of information out there which I'm ignorant of - and once you realise that, then you feel even more inadeqate (I know there's a famous quote from someone that goes something along those lines but don't ask me who?!)
Bakuvia, thank you for posting the poem, I hope things are looking brighter for you now?
I have voted you all as helpful users, hopefully it will help you in your star quests
:-)

Hey guys,
Can anybody tell me why my institute has access to certain academic papers and not others? From the 20 papers I've been looking for so far I have been able to access only 4. Surely we don't have to pay the 40 dollars or whatever it is for each paper do we?
As regards standards, I would like to have a look at various American and European standards but how do I get access to these? Again, is it a question of money?
grrr, very frustrating altogether

Hi LeannePhD,
I reckon I'm in a fairly situation to you. I'm 24, left home at 18 and have lived with my boyfriend for almost 6 years now, including the 4 years of my undergrad. All the way through college, he paid the vast majority of the bills. I helped him out as much as possible with my part-time work but he has a very high-paying, though unfufilling job and so could earn 4 times what I did in an hour.
So we decided that we would put off even getting engaged until I graduated so that we could make plans for the future. Unfortunately, I graduated at the worst possible time (recession!) and so decided to start a PhD (although I always wanted to get into academia but had intended to get a few years of work experience first).
My boyfriend was considering returning to uni full-time to do another undergrad degree in a subject that he was interested in (he later decided against this when he was reminded how much work/time was required of me to complete my degree) and so the idea was that I would work and pay most of the bills for the next few years. Now, our plans have been totally up-ended. We have to stay put until I complete (3 years time, fingers crossed!) and although my boyfriend is very supportive, I am quite aware of the fact that I am so focused on PhD that I don't really think about getting married or settling down much anymore. It just seems impossible to do both at the same time.
Now, I may be wrong about that and hopfully I am but basically I'm just saying that my life is also on hold until I complete the PhD (which I am loving by the way) and figure out which country we will both be useful in ( he has restrictions regarding which countries his profeccional license is valid in and so in certain places has to go back to uni for a year due to differing laws which he must learn about).
I'm thinking "next 3 years are PhD time, after that real life starts"
Hi TcAllen 247,
I've just started an a PhD in engineering in Europe and I have funding for 3 years of about 1200 euro per month. I hope to be finished in 3-4 years. If you intend to do the doctorate part-time than I'm sure you could be looking at 7 years but most full-time students complete in 3-5 years, as far as I know. Good luck with the decision. EV
Thanks Teek & Sneaks - unfortunately the news isn't too pleasant so am endeavouring to distract myself with some work as I don't really want to go home and deal with it.
Sneaks, I wouldn't expect too much of yourself if you are on pain meds, they really can effect your concentration.
Here's to a more productive evening for all!!
Time hates me today too:-( started off ok but had to deal with bombshell from partner so only 2 papers down, 7 to go plus analysis - it's going to be a late one
Good luck to you too Sneaks - you're 5% done!!
One paper down, 8 to go (I've realised I need to get through 9 today)
