I often wear jeans but normally smart it up a bit by wearing them with smart boots/shoes and a nice top.

If I was presenting, I would probably make more of an effort and dress up a bit.

Bit of wishful thinking on your part there Coastman?

I find that having a regular night's sleep 6-8 hours stops me from being tired and I can concentrate better on my work.

I never take naps, they make me feel ill.

I agree with Ann, with most Science PhDs, there is not as much scope with doing "your own thing" like there is in Social sciences. Something like chemistry, you will always have this problem as your work will always revolve around what your supervisor wants and thinks. Its not a bad thing, normally your supervisor will know a lot about the area and what has been done to death etc.

Which description most closely resembles how you would envisage the postgrad team:

1. Librarian-types, good looking in a subtle way, similar to Giles from Buffpy.
2. Footballers/Sporty
3. Physical scientist-types
4. Social scientist-types
5. Internet geeks

I think I agree with the others, I think it would be difficult for someone so young to do a phd as other people in their group would resent them and not take them seriously. I'm glad I worked in industry for two years, sometimes I have a bit of an edge over people who have gone straight on to a phd.
