A2D, you will be pleased to know that shops/newsagents/supermarkets etc will soon be forced to move any papers and magazines (including boys' mags like loaded etc) that contain any form of nudity, to the top shelf. I think they are allowed to keep the daily sport with the papers if its folded in such a way to prevent exposure of the pics.

Something like that anyway!

Lamb, not sure where in the UK you will be but sometimes if the uni is quite big and in a big city, there are often private halls close by. Normally a little bit more pricy that normal halls but generally cleaner, more facilities and you get to meet other postgrads.

I had to do a presentation to a load of chemists who's first language wasn't even English and knew nothing about anything I was going on about. It was fun!

Lots of pretty pics will keep them interested.

Basically try to explain stuff on the most basic level you can.

Sue, I think it depends on individuals if they like to go to conferences or not. I think some people are probably quite anti-social and would rather read papers then go and meet new people. I for one really enjoy it and there always is at least one person going to each relevant conference from my group. However I have been to one by myself when I was doing my MSci and some postdocs decided to look after me when I was there (lol).

It's a really good way of meeting people in your area and you never know when these contacts will come in handy. The more you go to, the more you recognise people.

Whats wrong with Times New Roman? I always use that.... :-S
