lostinoz, are there any conferences coming up that are more important? I only attended conferences in England for my first 2 years but I knew there was money in the pot for one abroad. My supervisor suggested which one. It happens that I will be attending 2 (I got a scholarship for one) in my final year both of which will be the best ones for me to attend (as well as free travel).

Maybe your supervisor says no because of funding restrictions?

I agree with Shani, she may tell your PI that you have been sexually harrassing her anyway, just to get rid of you. Seeing as if the university found out what she did, she could get kicked out.

I always wonder off my PC logged in and my work VERY accessible. For the 2+ years I've been working here, it would never have occurred to me that someone in my research group would do that to me. However I do backup.

I think the hardrive to the computer would say what happened early in the morning, so if you did want to have a word with Katy, she should realise that you would have proof.

That sounds like rubbish. Where I used to work before coming back to uni (they paid a pittance) starting salary for a postdoc was 24K (which was considered poo 4 years ago).

However you do get paid a lot more down south as this is where all the big companies are.

Unfortunately, as smildon has said, you need to push yourself. Yes you can get away with doing very little but at the end of the 3 years (or however long) you will be kicking yourself for doing just that.

Can you go for an industrial postdoc? I know they are available in chemistry no idea about biochem. A few of the large pharmaceutical companies offer them. They start on around 28k.

Bioinformatics is a popular field at the moment, there are loads of departments around the UK offering Masters and PhDs (see above posts).

I think your background would make is possible for you to go directly to a PhD, especially as your department will have bioinformatic courses that will bring you up to speed. HOWEVER, you will be competing with people who have the advantage with their dedicated undergrad degrees and/or projects.

I would go for a Masters or a 4-year course if I was you!
