Hi Jenny, I'm british-indian and normally when I go to conferences, I am one of the minorities. There are more men than women anyway and more often that not I'm the only asian woman.

However I think this is advantageous, people are more likely to remember me next time round!

Mind you, I have never suffered from racism all my life so I can't really comment on much.

Lots of my hair fell out. Apparantly you must have iron levels of about 15mg to have good hair growth. I take iron supplements everyday now and feel a lot better and have more hair.

I don't understand such a large amount of money! Aparantly the assessment is a couple of hours.

Thanks fluffymonster but he actually works. He has never done well academically but I don't want his poor writing/reading skills to stop him from doing well in his career. Quite annoyed about the £320 though, how do most people afford that? I don't want his company to get involved either because his boss is a mean git already!

I am posting this here as I know a couple of people on the forum have said they are dyslexic and doing a PhD.

I think my partner may be dyslexic and want to help him gain confidence in reading and writing. I contacted one of the dyslexic organisations but I have to pay £320 for an assessment before they can offer any advice.

Has anyone come across any good books for this or can offer any advice?

I know that my CASE away gives a certain amount of money to me and the same again the my department, per year. The amount given to the uni is towards office space and me wanting to go to conferences and travelling. If I want to go to a conference, I normally can.

If you want some more light-hearted reading, I recommend any of the adrian mole books by Sue Townsend!

I think I agree with the others, how would it look to potential employers? They would think you are interested in getting to the real world.
