Appendices - what's the best way to manage/reference them?

thanks everyone! I've just had a look at the guidelines and there is a word limit on the appendices!!! I have quite a few documents, I'm going to have to trim down!

Appendices - what's the best way to manage/reference them?

Quote From TreeofLife:
I only had 4 appendices and I labelled them A, B, C, D. I gave the figures and tables in each appendix caption titles so that they automatically updated if that's what you mean?

Thanks, so when you referenced to them in the text, did you say Appendix B, Table 4? Or just Appendix B? And was Appendix B in the text hyperlinked to Appendix B?

PhD Contributions - One or Many?

I agree with TreeofLife, it varies and you shouldn't worry, as long as you have some contribution. I am also under the category where I can get 3/4 publications out because the three studies I have done are linked together but are distinct.

Hi,

I have many documents that need to go in the Appendices.

I'm wondering, how do you label them and reference them in Word?

I've seen some people do it alphabetically (Appendix A,B,C,D), whilst others reference them by chapter, so Chapter 6 would have Appendix 6.1, 6.2, 6.3 etc. Only problem is that if an additional chapter is added in at the end, it'd mess up the system. Other people just add each chapter's appendices into one Appendix. What's the best way to do it?

Also, is there any way to add Appendices that would automatically update (like how table and figures do)?

Thanks!

Why exactly do you want to do a PhD?

Bored?

Yeh, I've been sorting out my data storage stuff and generally making sure I'm organised. Thing is, I like to have something I can get my teeth into. But OK, I'll take a chill pill and not ask for any work...

The problem with asking for additional work is that they'll start expecting it from you or relying on you, and you seriously don't want any extra work in your final 1/2 years!

Bored?
H

I spent a lot of time in those bored stages watching films and lots of daytime TV!

And now I spend most of my free time working on the thesis, so I've definitely made up for those hours when things were quiet. Now I've got loads to do because my data collection is complete!

I agree with chickpea, do you need to do any research method courses or reading? This is the time for that and setting up your social media profile and blog etc if you want to go down that route. Don't ask for work from your supervisors, gosh no!

Zutterfly and chickpea, sounds like you are both making great progress, well done! :)

I'm taking a week off to relax. I'm quite particular about taking holidays and take them regularly. I do sometimes wish I had more time to do work, but my partner makes sure I take off. It's nice to come back refreshed and I like to keep the work-life balance as far as I can :)

In other news, today I opened an older version of a document and started editing it *aaarggghhh

Hi everyone, how are you doing? I'm still working on analyses but managed to edit another chapter. Still got a lot do yet but really looking forward to the Easter break!

Are you taking time off for a break?

Failed to submit correction of thesis
H

I agree with tree of life.

Go back to the university, apologize, explain your circumstances, ask for an extension, and get those major corrections done. You are nearly there, don't give up.

Meanwhile ask your GP to refer you for some counselling for your anxiety or go and see the university counsellor.

What a dreadful situation to be in, please do fight it! I hope it is not a way for the uni to make more money :(

HELP! Corrections to submit today - more minor than major?
H

You've done them, well done! :)

Waiting for corrections to be accepted

Quote From theboakster:
No-one tells you how stressful the corrections process is!! After submitting my corrections this morning I feel petrified that they won't be accepted. Or that (because I haven't shown the corrections to anyone) there's a big typo that I've missed, or I don't know I've highlighted a section in yellow and forgotten about it or something stupid like that.

Friends have said 'oh it's a formality' but is it really? How many people don't get their corrections accepted?

I assume this is for your thesis? Are they minor or major corrections? Did your supervisors check your corrections before you submitted them? Most corrections are accepted, so I don't think you should worry!
