Final stages of PhD and on Suicide Watch
H

Hi, I'm very sorry to hear to what you are going through, and you have obviously had a very difficult few years. My advice is also please put your health first. Take a break from your PhD - as long as you need - and come back to it when you feel better. Do you have access to a counsellor?

Need help with a study! Grad Students needed!
H

There's an error on question

My desire to stay in the community in which I live (or ultimately hope to live) makes it difficult for me to find

its as 2 questions, when it should be one.

Also, I am surprised you are not asking for country of study? Surely that will impact on the results. You may for example be over stating the prestige of being a graduate student, whereas in UK, most people feel sorry for us! (we are poor and over worked!)

Tamecat, well done! :)

Work is going well here too, just cannot wait to finish data collection and start writing! I am really looking forward to writing the overall methodology chapter and the lit review ;)

I PASSED!!!!!!!!!
H

Many congratulations, and a very well done! :-)

What has been your responsibilities as a PhD with the University ?
H

It varies by department and university, and also how much teaching your own supervisor has to do, and how much of that they want you to do (to take work load off them).

Does anyone have access to this paper?
How glad are you that the PhD thesis is not graded?
H

Quote From TreeofLife:
Well, is pass with no corrections/minor corrections/major corrections/revise and resubmit/MPhil not a kind of grading system?

But yes, I dread to think what my grade in my viva would have been if there were categories within minor corrections!

Do people mention on their CV whether it was minor/major/no corrections?

I thought the majority of folks got minor corrections?

How glad are you that the PhD thesis is not graded?
H

I am so so glad that the PhD thesis is not graded!

Can you imagine the pressure if it was graded?!

Applying for phd studentship with no msc?
H

definitely apply.

"under review" and "reviewers assigned"

Quote From MeaninginLife:
Hi hoangnam,

Just received the verdict: revise and resubmit with major revisions.
Reviewers' comments are more than 4 pages long.

I got the same decision last year, it was scary at first, but this really helped and worked: http://getalifephd.blogspot.co.uk/2011/03/how-to-respond-to-revise-and-resubmit.html

corrections misery

Hi, I wouldn't take it to another university. Make the changes (yes they are major but working on it once a week should be sufficient?). You don't want to go through the whole process and transferring.

Have you broken down into very small chunks all the changes that need doing?

Place them on an Excel sheet and tick off as you go along. Will make it much more manageable and less daunting.

Resubmitting Years On
H

I would go back to your supervisor (maybe cc department in), explain the situation like you have here, and see what they say.

Submitted PhD and typos!
H

Don't panic! Most people do the same. Just make a table and enlist in it all your typos, which page they are on, and take it with you to the viva.

Research Job in the UK

The good thing about the north is that it is much more affordable that the south. The rent and living costs are alot cheaper.

Chocolate, same thing. Thanks so much for contributing. Very bruising indeed. Never thought it would be so different. Was always good at school but with their comments I feel dumb and incapable. Grrrrr :)))

Yes! I come out of my supervisions feeling utterly stupid. I try to tell myself that every single paragraph they have commented on, I should write next to it, brilliant, spot on! ;-)
