anyhow, am taking a deep breath and attempting to refine structure again :-(

I'll go first.

I've been working on my discussion chapter for two months now... some days am over the moon as everything is so clear - structure included. then there are those days - like today and yesterday - when i just stare at my screen and before i know it the day is over.

at the moment am trying to incorporate the different summaries i had written earlier on different parts of the chapter and its all so hard. i wanted to get it done by today but am really far behind on this.

My problem is too many words and am not really being able to tell my story..

any tips?

Hello everyone who's writing up,

I thought it would be a good idea to create a thread for those struggling with this make it or break it chapter.

If you're going round in circles please join this thread and lets encourage each other and share tips on how its all going.

We may just help each other to find a way out of this maze.

ps: refer to your thesis title and use that as the title of the chapter.

i feel the same.

i have decided it is ok to repeat what am saying in different words. perhaps add in a bit of theory - which i have already mentioned in other chapters - to flesh it up.

i agree with Algaequeen. this is where you say what you have been trying to say all this time.

Step 1: figure out what you have been trying to say. ( i did this by reading through and summarising my thesis from beginning to end.)

Step 2: say it as Algaequeen suggested.

A legal matter...

i agree with Florence - because this policeman was illegally parked, he is the one who should be worried about paying for damage to your car. not you.

best of luck..

hey Walminski,

am sorry to hear about your incident. at work i deal with a lot of these kind of claims but usually they are for personal injury. were you injured in any way? whiplash? even trauma is an injury - for instance if you are afraid to drive again. even the slightest injury will help here to make it a PI claim.

assuming the road in question is a public road, you can sue the local authority for not clearing up the snow on time. it doesn't matter whether the driver of the car was a policeman. what matters is that he was wrongly parked so that whether you were driving correctly or not you would have hit him. usually here you are required to do everything in your path to avoid this. which you did - because there was nothing you could do to stop your car because of the failure of the local authority. if the policeman has a claim, he should bring it against the local authority and not against your insurer. the local authority should have reasonably foreseen that cars would skid bumping into others if it did not clear the ice. its the policeman who should be worrying about being parked wrongly, not you.

what did you actually say at the police station? (DON'T ADMIT LIABILITY FOR THE ACCIDENT. this will be sufficient for the policeman to bring a claim against your insurer.) its not a bad idea to stop by your GPs to check that everything is ok. it could put you in good stead legally. (the photos will help alongside photos of any injuries.)

if PI fails, for lack of medical evidence, take it up as a traffic offence and have both the local authority (who did not provide a safe road to drive on) and the policeman (who was wrongly parked) as the people you are making a claim against. keyword: accept no liability. instead be the victim.:p

that's my view. any other lawyer?

A bit of a girly cosmetic/gross topic

so sorry Cobweb, that sounds serious. maybe try sitting on a pillow while you work to reduce the pressure and pace a bit every hour to improve circulation.. exercise as well.

never seen anything like it where am from or even here. getting checked may be a good idea. then maybe they can stop them before they go all over. don't worry am sure medics always have a solution.

wishing you respite from this on top of work..

After my MPhil, can I do my PhD at a different Uni?
J

what i meant was you can transfer your project to another university rather than start from the beginning. you just need to get another supervisor at the other university who is willing to carry on supervision. :-) hope that answers your question.

not sure what to do
J

hello Notime,

i would advice you go to counselling. i did that just to get an extension after three years of mismanagement. i also had to start from the beginning and am almost done now, just one year on. unlike you, i had to get a new research question, so you're in a better position.

yes they will keep a record of the counselling sessions, but its only going to be kept for five years under the Data Protection Act and won't matter after that if you are an international student. even if you are a home student, no one is likely to ask for it ever - besides stress is a common illness in this place (assuming you're in the UK) and nothing to be embarrased about. if i were you.. since you have the results and only need to write, you just need a year to come up with that convincing argument. don't let those people mess you up. submit and let the panel - not the institution- decide your fate.

thanks bilbo but, unfortunately my supervisor is not on top of the research in my area and a lot of his students have passed with major corrections. thats why am seeking views elsewhere. :-(
