yesterday's working hours: 10.30am - 2.00pm, 2.30 pm - 4.30pm, 5pm -8.30pm.

oh, the joy of submitting i can live a stress free life before i hear from my supervisor in about two weeks.

today is going to be a long day. am off to a workshop.

Stressed for Life?

you can always quite academia after the PhD. no one said all PhDs have to be academics. one of my friends' mum got a PhD in Engineering and she is a full time house wife; and has been since she completed her PhD. am considering taking a year out and doing an admin job post phd before i think of the way forward. i could be a hairdresser for all you know. there is more to life.

the dreadful question - when will you finish - third years and others.
J

speaking of first years living in a fantasy (no offence to first years on this forum, i went to a seminar a couple of weeks ago and there was this first year who kept asking questions about fact rather than argument. and they went on and on. trust me, by the time they get to second year, they will no longer be speaking at seminars, they will have arrived in the world of research. lol. good memories of first year innocence.

Is anybody working tonight?
J

is anyone else working tonight? i have heeps of proof-reading to do.

the dreadful question - when will you finish - third years and others.
J

am just so mad at people who keep asking when i'll finish, whether what am handing in is a last draft. like it's any of their business!! is there anyone who else getting agitated by the enquiries of well meaning relatives and friends? what do you tell them? i just told one that i don't whether my chapters will be a final draft - that depends on my supervisor.

am so sick of all these questions. why can't everyone mind their own business. i never ask them about their work reports, when they'll finish them, whether they are final drafts - why should they ask about mine. grrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!

Are you motivated? Then, please....
J

also publications and conferences if you're not in science. i have attended conferences, on my own initiative without my supervisor pointing me to them and also done publications. you have to take responsibility if you want a PhD. it's not just gonna happen when you're waiting for your supervisor to rescue you. you have to get down and do the hard work and then maybe your supervisor will be interested. if the methodology is so bad, why did you carry on with it for three years? maybe you should seek a second opinion.

a number of these things you can do on your own - like a thesis outline.

VENTING ABOUT INSENSITIVE RELATIVES
J

'some people definitely have some sort of problem with it (and treat my husband like he's a saint for 'allowing' it grrrrrrrrr).'

i have a problem with people and in particular men who think that they can control a woman's life. decide how many kids she will have, where she will work, what jobs she will do and when. i believe everyone should live their life as they want to and no one has a right to limit another person by making them 'behave' the way they want them to or by making them 'do' what they want them to. when will that other person every live their life???
