Feeling unable to teach
J

hi hope. i always dread preparing for teaching. it's always an uphill struggle for me - the preparation. plus i panic before classes. think about it. how much do you remember of what your seminar taker said during your undergrad? pretty much nothing. so, if you make a mistake - accept it, if necessary acknowledge it and move on. if you're not sure about your stuff, try to make the students talk as much as possible. and comment on what they say. don't teach. check what they know. correct major errors in what they say. and that's it. all the best. am in the den tomorrow. keep your fingers crossed. i've only started prepping.

oh, i forgot to mention that i taught 3rd years. first years are less likely to find you out. so.... you can get away with moments of lack of clarity.

why such rudeness in paper rejection?
J

don't give up. try incorporating comments and send it off to another journal. don't stop, it will be very hard to pick it up later and correct it.

lol. when i was in my first year - i lost a whole semester teaching this subject that i had no clue about. i had to learn it to teach it. it was horrible. soon the students found me out and i had assessors sitting my class. it is amongst the hardest times in my life. ever since i decided never to teach any remotely difficult subject - even in my area. the trauma is not worth it. that said, i learnt a lot. but am sure there are easier and better ways to learn. in the end, i quit with about two weeks remaining to the end of term. i couln't take it anymore. caught a flight and went on a month's holiday to recover. never again. am glad i can laugh about it now. at the time i even lost weight worrying about the damn teaching.

if i were you i wouldn't.

good luck in your decision.

tips on how to pass psychometric tests
J

hi. am preparing to sit verbal and numerical reasoning tests in the next few days. are there any tips that you might have on how to pass the verbal reasoning tests, as am finding that my score is about 50% from the practice exercises. am also finding it hard to get my head round the long and boring passages. are there any tips to doing this - any method perhaps?

i've been writing this chapter for ages. i do know the thrust of my argument, but i find that i've got to read more to make it happen. i'm feeling frustrated not being able to give my supervisor perfect work, especially because I have had to force some areas to flow. i also can't delay handing in coz i have missed my deadline by a month or so. has anyone else experienced this? or is it just me who hands in work that isn't up to standard on a regular basis?
