guys, am thinking of spending some time in the U.S. during my thesis. Mainly because I have never been and I fancy some travelling and a break from UK unis during my second year. Has any of you been on a visiting fellowship before? How did you manage to get your supervisor to allow you to go? & what did you say to get accepted on the other end?

call me a winj but i'd rather die than go to a party with my supervisor even tho they were serving my fav dish. anybody else like me? or are you all very hapy in the company of ur supervisors.

hey guys. thanks. i was getting worried that am still gonna be writing mine by Christmas time. i sometimes feel that a lot is expected of me. i have to see my supervisors each fortnight to show them what i've done and am feeling this is not enough time to i.d. a trend in the literature an dhand in typed work prior to this appointments. at the moment am working on keeping up with them and just reading other people's lit reviews and summarising them in my own words :(. is that silly! how else am i supposed to survive this!! i plan to read the articles in full over Christmas :). frustrated, jojo.

how long did everyone spend doing their literature review. guys, i just saw my supervisors and am slowly getting really discouraged. what should i do? am only 2 months into my phd. how many times do you have to rewrite a chapter before it's fine. am getting worried that i will not be able to finish this phd in 3 years at this pace.

hey guys, thanks for your thoughts. How did anyone deal with this. changing them is no option and by the way, i don't hate them. i just hate their style :). am ready to keep up. how? is what i don't know.

am so ashamed of my lit review, the thought of handing it in and having to discuss it infront of my two supervisors makes me sick. how are you guys coping with this sessions. the first one was really bad, it was like a getting shot session. i was barely surviving the questions, just blarting my way thro it. i sometimes felt that i was really blowing it, but i was glad i said something. when i left the room, i couldn't walk home. went to a nearby room and sat for two hours wondering what i had let myself in for.

guys..you give me so much consolation. i had to hand in my lit review at the beginning of this month and i wrote such a bad 'essay' that i was offered an extention. things haven't improved much since, but....hopefully i will get there. i was beginning to think that i dodn't have what it takes. good to know this is actually normal :).
