lol no i am not, i was told by a fellow phd student, who's passed her phd, that i can't copy what i have written in my paper, because of copyright laws??? because it's published.

Todays aim is to read papers and work on my introduction. I am aiming to write 1000-2000 words worth of notes from the papers.

I have to read in total approximately 74 papers by the end of next week.
So far I have read and made notes from 3 papers (i did this yesterday, and wrote 743 words of "notes")

I highly recommend the book:

Writing your dissertation in fifteen minutes a day, by Joan Bolker.
(obviously you don't write your dissertation in only 15 minutes a day, but it's a trick to get you started if you have writers block)

but she talks about zero draft, which is just brilliant!

I've just been inspired by Jojo to have a writing up diary, to track my progress.

My submission deadline is September 1st.

I am aiming to submit my thesis to Senate house by 25th August (safety net).

18th August (I will have it printed and bound)

11th August (I want the thesis to be in it's final version and completed ready to print).

7th of july is my deadline - first draft of my entire thesis

This week, I am working on the 3rd section of my introduction. reading papers and getting ideas on how to analyse and intepret my 3rd results chapter.

My first deadline is: 2nd of june: first draft of my 3rd results chapter, and will give to my supervisor to look at.

Hello, I was wondering what the rules are about plagerising yourself?

I have written a paper (I am first author) and this will be one of my results chapters.

Do I have to rewrite the things I wrote in my paper for my thesis? because I can't plagerise myself??? because of copyright laws?

Also can I not use my figures and tables that I made from the paper for my thesis?

I so wish I listened to my graduate tutor when he said not to write papers but write my thesis first, but my supervisor told me to write the paper first and then my thesis.

Also, where can i find out information regarding referencing style and margins specifications etc, if you're submitting to the University of london senate house? (I am using endnote).

okay my thesis deadline is september 1st, after that i will not be eligible to submit my thesis eeek.

This is what i have to get done by then:
introduction chapter
general methods chapter.
results chapter 1
results chapter 2
results chapter 3
conclusion and future studies.

what i have done so far:
written 1 paper and it's been published, which will be results chapter 1
written a 2nd paper, which has been submitted, which will be results chapter 2.

this week, i am working on my 3rd section of my introduction chapter.

i am aiming to get a first draft of my entire thesis by 7th of july. (6 chapters - , 1 chapter per week).

then spend july- aug: writing my 2nd draft.
then august - sept, finishing it off and tidying it up, and sorting out loose ends.

i really liked what you adviced, about just submitting it, and thinking of the chance of a re-write, that's really helped me. i think that's what i will do. and try not to a perfectionist with my writing and chapters.. and just get it done. thanks!!

i know they have every right to be annoyed with me, for taking 8 years. i dont blame them at all. that's why i'm going to try my best and get it written and submitted by sept.

and what you said about that it's in no ones interest for them not to let me submit, has made me feel better, and calmed me down. i was having panic attacks that i couldnt concentrate on writing!

it has made me feel much better to learn that you can write 80,000 words in 3 months. you're right, no more life! i have cancelled all my plans, and i am just going to be in hibernation for the next 3 months.

and yes i wont write anymore papers and will stand my ground and wont let my supervisors talk me into it!
