Clinical nutrition or human nutrition??
M

Hi. If you are new to biochemistry then you will have the chance to attend biochemistry bridging lessons to strenghten your biochemistry knowledge and yes, Human Nutrition does have more biochemistry. Clinical nutrition will have biochemistry too but your right because its primary focus is over-nutrition, under-nutrition, nutritional epidemiology, nutrition and politics. But these are also areas that Human Nutrition covers.

Which university do you wish to study at?

Is your course nutrition based or epidemiology?

MSc is harder than BSc because at Masters level you are expected to comprehend twice as much material compared to your BSc. The assignments and exams are harder but if your up to it then you will be able to do it.

Your project is an example because undergrad students sometimes get too much supervision for their dissertations but at masters levels, you will not get as much as you did for your BSc. Research methods module is critical for masters, there will be more presentations, more groupwork, more assignments depending on how many modules there are and how they are split into exams and coursework. You would need to be up-to-date with the material in your field.

I would suggest you look at the university websites that offer PhD in biological sciences. They generally have information about the funding on their websites. Hope this helps.

Hi Emma

I did mine at Oxford so I can help you out. When are you starting and what would you like to know?

Having done my MSc in Human Nutrition, I can say human nutrition over clinical nutrition because human nutrition covers several aspects of clinical nutrition. If you like clinical nutrition in your human nutrition MSc then you can always choose to do research assignments in it.

Dear All,

I am starting my PhD in october this year and was wondering if you guys could help me out with some questions I have so that my life doesn't get too difficult in the future:-).

1) What would you suggest new PhD students do after they have enrolled and from their first day?

2) How should the student handle his/her supervisors?

3) What do supervisors expect from the first year PhD students?

4) Is it easy to fail the first year and not progress to the second year? and what can be done to prevent this from happening?

I am sure I have more questions but would appreciate to hear what you guys have experienced so far.

thanks

True. My problem is that many universities I have approached want £25-30 000 just to cover the fee and living expenses comes on top, makes it £35-40 000 even though the PhD is not lab based.

£65 000 includes living expenses. PhD is only £35000. I can't do it in my home country because I won't get funding for that, here in the UK I will.
