Dear Amendarf, When I was 21years old and told my Dad that I had decided to do my PhD in Biochemistry, he asked me "Do u know y they award u a Doctrate in Philosophy and not a Doctorate in Science??"....Keen though I was to do my PhD, I was stumped when I was asked this question. And being the patient and loving dad that he is, he explained to me "Because doing a PhD teaches u more about life than about science"........Whatever ur research interests are, doing a PhD will take u on a roller coaster ride, just have to learn to hang on, get used to it and enjoy the ride!!! I know that this is a tough phase for you, but the best thing u can do right now is prove ur sup that he is wrong and think calmly of stratergies that can turn the situation into a positive one. Does ur Sup have someother Prof who he is really close to in the Department?? U can try telling him ur problem and maybe he can influence ur sup to reconsider his discission?? (I have tried this stratergy on an oncassion and it has worked!!! so....);-)....... Keep ur spirts high.... A PhD is part of ur life, not ur whole life..REMEMBER THAT!!!! May the sun shine brightly on u and may the angles smile sweetly this Monday.... Gud luck with everything!!! I am sooo glad that u have taken all this in the best possible spirit,I doubt if I would do the same.....

Sorry everyone...I wasnt on the forum for a few days....One of my friends was in a biiig mess and I was helping her sort out the problem!!! Now that the problem has been solved I am back.... Did anyone miss me??;-)
Will be starting my first set of experiments on Friday, and teaching a Bachelors course this Thursday... Very very excited about everything.... I have an assignment to do over the weekend as well so I will be definately keeping u amazing people company!!!

Had a gud day at collage today...had to design experiments for the next week along with a small proposal....Now, I am just going to read some papers so that I dont seem like a too much of a dufice when I speak to my Prof next....
I know all of u r swamped with work and writing up is taking up a major chunk of ur lifes...but please take care of ur health and eat on time....try to catch ur share of 40 winks each day....I know its tooo much to ask but do try....

It must seem difficult to recruit volunteers for the study, but u just need some time and then u will probably get more volunteers than u would need....Firstly I would target the student community...I would send e-mails to all my friends, especially those in different Unis and ask them to pass it on to other friends.... Another thing which I would do would be to put an ad in Gumtree (which is free!!!) I would also go to different colleges and put up posters on their notice boards.... and also some local supermarket if they give me permission..... The thing is the more the publicity u give to ur study , more people will be interested in doing it !!!! And if u r paying the volunteers some money or any other perks, it really helps!!!!

I did my Master's in India.....and there all the Profs are busy.... and besides they are trying to make u prepared for a PhD...and since its ur dessertation, they expect u to do most of the work. The bulk of the work is given to u , the Profs are there to guide u and they wont spoon feed u like in the UK....actually u will really appreciate ur Prof when u do ur PhD in UK.... Basically what I am trying to say is that he seems like a nice person. If u have any doubts, try to find answers urself, and still if the doubts persist ask the Prof as a last resort. Here in India they are trying to make u independent researchers. It might be tough now, but please appreciate all the things u will be learning by ur own....The sense of Independence and achievement is amazing!!! when I did my Masters, my guide met me only twice every month, mostly to keep track of what I am doing , guide me a little and sometimes motivate me... This is how its going to be with most Profs!!!!
Dont worry u seem to be in safe hands!!

Usually when u give ur Viva, the externals give a written feed back form. Did u get urs?? If yes then it would be really easy to just follow what mistakes they have pointed and correct them.....Other than that I dont know anything else regarding this
......I am sure u will survive!!!! and come out with flying colors.
