It seems such a silly thing to ask, but the presentation seems to be such an issue (and I know people who've had stupid things like style added to minor corrections)

It varies so much depending on how things are going - some weeks I can do over 30 hours (I'm PT) and others I can do less than 10 (not including thinking time)

One bit of advice I got before starting my PhD was that you need to learn that your supervisor is a very big part of your world, but you're a very small part of theirs. You have to shout to get yourself heard sometimes.

What font are you writing in? Trying to work out which is easiest to read

I know someone who managed to get on a course with a third. They contacted the admissions tutor and begged for an interview and gave a great interview apparently so they made an exceptiion in their case. However, like sleepyhead says, they apparently haven't coped with the MA-level coursework very well. Perhaps you should contact the institutions direct and promote yourself as much as possible. It can be done, but you have to be tough and try as many places as possible. Stick to institutions that are not top of their league - try the ex-polys - as you will have more chance

Try and talk to some of the students who are already there - that was more more useful to me than the books

If you are not earning over 15K a year they won't take payments - student or not - but you will keep gaining interest on the amount left whilst you are not making payments (you acquire interest even if you are a FT or PT student)

I'm in IR. A lot of people take a Masters to 'cover up' a bad undergrad degree - you can't erase the 2.2, but a decent MA will show you have achieved a good mark at a higher level and so people will not be as interested in a less than fab undergrad mark. It's all a bit like A Levels - no one looks at your GCSEs much once you have the higher qualification IYSWIM

Studentships are not affected by being married, but it will matter if you apply for bursaries that are means tested as they will take your partners' income into account (but this may also apply if you live with your partner at the same address, regardless of whether you are married or not). You can't easily apply for hardship funds (for example) if your partner earns X amount - a with the dole

Being married will not affect employment - you could probably sue the pants off anyone who didn't give you a studentship purely for that reason on the grounds of discrimination!
