Honary doctorates are fine if the person has truly contributed to the field. I know several academics who don't have doctorates because they entered academia at a time when a PhD was not necessary to teach, but they have excelled in their field. That deserves one.

I would tell my arse of a boss to go stuff his part time job up his over-inflated behind and then I'd go FT on the thesis

I worry about my research as I'm PT (work as well so things are tought anyway), but the units are flexible and there are no fixed sessions that I have to attend

Lecturer hubby thinks it is a waste of time, but he started lecturing a while ago when you didn't necessarily need publications or lots of teaching experience

I would be very careful about not mentioning that you have started a PhD. As Ann says, you could have your position terminated if it was found out. Also, academics are a fairly close bunch and it is likely that your new supervisor may found out you started a PhD elsewhere

Hey Laney - I had to to do two afternoon sessions as well

The course is not compulsory (only the first two sessions were) - this is 'extra' teacher training, supposedly to improve your skills and help you get a job

What about the other side - would you do a course if you thought the lecturer had a crush on you or would you avoid the course if it wasn't necessary?

I've been to two sessions (which you have to complete before your can teach) - the other units are formally assessed credit-bearing units

I want to lecture so I can see how it would improve my CV, but then other lecturers tell me institutions really want to see publications and will train you themsleves if they hire you

Just don't know if it would be worth the time
