National Insurance Shortfall

I'm annoyed that the government is so intend on 50% of people going to University, but you start accruing a shortfall during your undergraduate degree. If you want people to stay in education, give them the support necessary

Luigi - not all areas of research are well funded so there simply isn't the money available to fund every PhD student.

If it's relevant to your topic then yes, but it will primarily come down to your grades and proposal.

How competetive is the ERSC open scholarship?

Depends on the proposal although it helps if you got a first

They've just cut the number of places allocated to Unis so it looks like it will be getting even more competitive

LSE admission please help!!

It is very difficult to get into the LSE so I second making other applications as well to less prestigious institutions. I know someone who applied for less popular courses in the same department in the hope that he could transfer onto that course (as it turns out he loved the original course so he stayed on that!)
