Mellory, don't worry about the costs of this software. You will have a budget code for your project, and you can purchase a copy of Endnote if you need to (assuming the uni doesn't give you referencing software)

Another thing, I would recommend Endnote, although I haven't tried Procite or reference manager, so it wouldn't be fair for me to say which one is better. See what the university uses, as they may automatically install one of them onto your pc for you.

Right, I use Endnote. Basically, when i search on scopus or science direct and find a paper I'm going to read, I download and print the paper. But at the same time I download the citation details too, this goes into Endnote, and whenever I'm writing a document and need to reference that paper, I highlight the paper in Endnote, and in Word click 'insert reference'. This puts the reference in the document as a citation, then as a reference at the end of the document, so saves you a whole load of time.

The good thing about Endnote is you can download styles from the Endnote website, this enables you to automatically reference in the style of the journal you plan to submit to (they all have slightly different styles, just to make our lives harder)

I agree with the age limits, in the case of big brother they should have stopped making them after 1 or 2 years. They should not have kept making these, they are turning into freak shows where they gather extreme personalities, gays and ex-porn stars. Bringing someone in with tourettes was a bit out of order as the producers of this show obviously pulled him in as they thought he would be funny to watch, which he is, but the producers undoubtably chose him in a kind of bullying make fun of him mentality.

Sounds like at this stage you are doing the right thing. Although this is not what I did to be honest.

I'm a chemist, and so similarly to physics, there do tend to be a decent amount of projects around. You need to be a little flexible though. For example, PhD projects may be sponsored by a company, and so have a real-life application, these projects are very good to do as the structure is more or less in place. This obviously doesn't allow you to do whatever the hell you like though.

Look at the current projects on this site, and you will get an idea of what will be around next year too. Also my babbling about flexibility may become clearer, as by that I meant you can do a more chemistry or engineering focused PhD using your Physics degree.
