When I started I had to go to an induction meeting first and then after that we met our supervisors. My supervisor rang me the day before it was all due to start to let me know what was happening but I did get some information from the grad studies office too. If in doubt you could ring/email the grad studies office to find out what the plan of action is or contact your supervisor to see what you are supposed to do. In my first few weeks I felt totally lost and took a bit of time for me to find my feet.

What you going to be doing?

PhD Productivity (or not)
T

1. How many journal articles do u usually manage to read a week?
Probably about 5 on average.. I read alot of abstracts as I get various email alerts.. so i scan abstracts and then see how good/relevant they are

2. Books?
Work related books.. none really unless I am looking for something specific (but I am science so I dont need to read that many)

3. How much writing?
I write in my lab book everyday so it depends how much I've done.

4. How much writing do you hand in to your sup and how often?
I hand something into my sup every few months I guess

Quote From thecoastman:

I was sitting in a park in London on Friday, and a guy with a bowler hat was walking his ferret on a lead. All these Italian tourists were going mad...

Thats cool.. I used to have a ferret when I was a kid, I had a lead for her but she didn't like it.. they make great pets but do smell!

Bless you all. I can't remember the last time I saw a whippet. Its a myth!

I agree it is a myth.. I don't think I have ever known anyone in Yorkshire who actually had a whippet.

To get true yorkshire stereotype bonus points I think you'd need to go the extra mile and get a ferret in on the action
