Have you considered an ergonomic mouse mat? The ones with the foam bump for you to rest your wrist on can be helpful.

This is a question that only can answer! Reading into your post it sounds like might be a tiny bit reluctant about the PhD and maybe a bit more in favour of taking the job?

What are your longer term goals - e.g., what do you see yourself doing in 5 years time, or 10 years time? Will you be able to progress with the job (offered) to the position you want, or will you need a PhD anyway? Even if you need a PhD, you might decide that you like the idea of the job so much that maybe you'll do a PhD later. There's no limit on age (although maybe later you'll have more commitments...). How passionate are you about the PhD/TA route? These are all things to consider : ) Hope this helps a bit!

I think normally you'd have to do this to demonstrate your understanding of the area (i.e. lit review) even though the project is already loosely defined. Are you able to email the potential supervisors and ask them about it? That way you can get a feel for what they'd be expecting in the research proposal.

A good starting point might be to look at what other researchers in the area have done (ie what kinds of methodologies have been used to answer questions similar to yours). Also, research methods text books often list different qualitative vs quantitative approaches, and provide examples of the types of research questions that can be answered by each. You could see which ones would be appropriate for your research questions/aims.

I'm a bit confused by your response before. You really need to be clear about the approach you want to take to address your research questions. Is this for a proposal for PhD funding? If so, I would suggest putting more time into it and going for the next deadline or a different opportunity. There is no point just throwing things together and not necessarily understanding why.

Some of my colleagues recently did some research with secondary school pupils. They entered them into a prize draw for a tablet or something similar, and that went well. I think high street or Amazon vouchers might be preferable over cash (from an ethical perspective - as that restricts what can be bought).

I had assumed quantitative. Although I imagine you would still want to give an indication of the sample size you are aiming for in your qualitative study - not for statistical purposes but at least so that the panel can see that you have thought about what is achievable within a given time frame.

Thanks. Guess I will just see how it goes. Funny - online there is heaps of advice for powerpoint presentations but can't seem to find any for a good old fashioned talk with handouts. Think it is a different dynamic altogether though really. No visual effects etc.

It is good if you can state a target sample size and some justification as to why (e.g., what other studies did or even better power analysis - if its quantitative that is).

It can change later but defo good to put it is as it shows you know what you're aiming for (what you need to detect an effect) and whether it can be achieved in the given time frame.

I've been told no computer is available in the room and asked to forward the slides so that the host can print them and hand them out!

Does anyone have any tips for presenting to a small group without slides on screen but with slides printed and handed out? Has anyone here done this before? Did you stand up/sit down, etc?

Judging by Microsoft's sheer desperation to get people upgrading to Windows 10, it wouldn't surprise me if after the free period ends they actually start paying people to do it!

Everyone I know who has upgraded to Windows 10 so far has regretted it. One even paid money to have it restored to her previous version as it kept crashing and she couldn't do the downgrade herself. One says he can't find anything on there and simple things takes ages to do now (probably just a learning curve thing that will get better).

The IT services at my university strongly advised us not to upgrade if we can help it (despite aggressive marketing from Microsoft). There are issues with privacy among other things. Google it! If you are happy with your current version, I'd say keep it!
