I think I would include those things - if the job were specifically requiring/desiring those skills. On one of my recent CVs I had a heading called "Skills and training relevant to xxx position", and then I had four bullet points under it with the most relevant things. I don't do this every time, it just seemed right for this particular thing I was going for (and indeed it was shortlisted).

One of the best pieces of advice someone gave me once when I didn't get a job and I asked for feedback was about how rubbish my cover letter was (she said it much more kindly than that though). The cover letter/personal statement should refer to every required and desired bit of skill and experience outlined on the job spec, and have examples of how you have demonstrated them or if you haven't then that you are extremely keen to do so. Anything that you're adding that isn't strongly related to the job spec, they probably are just filtering out. So if every sentence and point you make can be relevant - and have real examples - then they are going to find it hard to resist finding out more about you. I found it really helpful.

I am not sure if this helps but also maybe get some feedback from someone on the actual CV - maybe the career service at your uni or similar?

I think my only strong feeling is that we should not have a second referendum. If we remain, then remain - and explain why that decision was taken (and whilst at it, also apologise for the first referendum as it was obviously a big mistake). But don't chuck it back to the people and then try and tell them in was their decision. I am certain that many who voted leave first time round - many for whom it was the first time they had ever believed in something enough to vote for it - which is pretty amazing - would not vote again... ever. Because chucking it back like that confirms their beliefs that their voice is disregarded if it doesn't say what the "elites", celebs, etc, want it to. That's my view anyway.

I think I agree with your point pm133 about having a resolution by now if it wasn't for the extremists and their un-compromising-ness on both sides. And definitely nothing like this can even come near those periods in our history.

I'm finding this tough too - I mean... how should I know? :D But if you really are just doing blue skies thinking then I'm going to suggest that you look into an MSc in speech and language therapy or audiology... a complete change... both extremely interesting and lots of jobs out there afterwards!

How exciting! Go for it! My only suggestion is only come to Europe / UK if it's for the cultural experience and not the educational one. I'm going to get shot down for saying this I'm sure... but it's just my opinion.

If you don't hear back, please just go ahead and do it and submit anyway. It sounds like you are really over thinking and over checking everything (I know what this is like - believe me). But at the end of the day, you need to show confidence about just going ahead and doing these minor things - otherwise you are just going to feel like you can't step a foot anywhere without checking first. Then again, perhaps I will feel like you too when it comes to making corrections and wanting to be certain it gets through! Thing is - they want to pass you - it's minor corrections - you aren't going to be failed on such a small point! Good luck with submitting it! :-)

I'm surprised at how infrequently Brexit seems to come up on this forum... yeh I get it, it's old news now and everyone is totally sick of hearing about it. I just thought I'd do my own private (and deeply biased) poll on it though... if anyone is willing to participate... no need to reveal your vote, but: have your views changed at all since the 2016 referendum?

Hi! I'm not yet post viva, but lots of my friends are. I think you might be overthinking / worrying and this is gonna be fine. For peace of mind, can you not just google and find the ref or at least A ref that you can use to substantiate the minor point?

An MRes is not redundant unless you have already studied or have time to study later or don't need to study any of the modules on it! If you can get funding I'd say go for the MRes - it's really useful. But you could apply for both if you have a 1+3 and a 3 only option... see which one you get offered the funding for, and if both, make decision then. I'm not sure I've ever heard of anyone regretting doing an MRes, but I have heard people wishing that they'd done one.

I think it is fine unless the conference has some explicit guidance that prohibits this. I think it happens when people are ill or whatnot and a colleague knows their work well.

I have never seen handouts being used - but again, different field. I attended an interview not long ago that was for something for candidates from different disciplines. And in addition to giving a presentation we were told we could bring handouts if we had complex information that could be more easily conveyed through visual materials. But I assume you use powerpoint slides and can put stuff on there in your talk?

I think to guide me in your situation I would be asking what do others do (ie what is the norm in my field) and also are handouts necessary (or are the majority of people just going to throw them away).

Curious what has prompted your question at this time!
