Wouldn't ask but...does anyone have access to the Journal of MIxed Methods Studies?

Someone has helped me with it, for which I'm really grateful. Thanks for your interest and help everyone.:-)

Wouldn't ask but...does anyone have access to the Journal of MIxed Methods Studies?

Hi everyone, I'm currently ploughing on with my methodology and wishing to God I hadn't done mixed methods - the philosophy is really grating. Anyway, I'm really struggling with my research question - turns out that it's not quite as straightforward as for monomethod studies. The thing is, I've seen a really nice article in the Journal of Mixed Methods that I'd love to read (but my uni doesn't subscribe to it) - it would be a massive help. I've tried every way to get hold of the article save for requesting it via my uni (which would cost £3-50!), so I wonder whether anyone may be able to pass me on an electronic copy if they have access to the journal? I know it sounds really cheeky, but this is one of those research defining articles that you occasionally come across as a student - I just know it. Please private mesage me if you feel you can help. Thank you :-)

This sounds silly but maybe you can send off for it anyway, but put a letter in explaining the situation and that the reference will follow asap? That may be the best thing you can do, as you only have a matter of hours.

Quote From cwilson79:

It's clearly not something anyone should ever advertise having done, but as I said in my earlier post, I was lucky enough to find a trustworthy site and I got the grade I needed. I'm not denying that 99% of sites / people out there are scammers.

Trolling??? Broken record??? Change subject??? Now if only I could find an essay writing service to help me turn that into a short passage...

Does anyone else require psychic powers?

Managed to get through the IRAS fiasco and am doing a multi-centre study but it was a absolute nightmare for sure. I hate the ethics process and am glad that I got it out of the way. Would definitely have helped to have been psychic!

ageism, feeling old and dealing with not making a 'famous discovery' yet as a 23 year old phd student

Who the flippin' heck would want to be a celebrity anyway? What a vacuous and pointless existence that is. What really brought that home for me was seeing the break up of Jordan and Andre (2009) discussed on the national 10 o'clock news! What does that say about society at large, at the risk of starting to sound cliched? Anyway, I digress.
If you want celebrity, Eueu, and God knows why, then I think doing a PhD is completely the wrong way to go about it. As previously mentioned, our work is narrow, esoteric, often very self-centred and, largely, not for public consumption. You're very perceptive when you say no-one cares about your work. They don't. But why should they? It's your work and relatively few people will be able to understand it.
A few 'famous' names have been mentioned and I suppose you could class that as a kind of celebrity status, if that's what you want. You'd better do something, as someone mentioned, something that's pretty life changing for people though. As for feeling old at 23 - wtf??? I'm not that much older but I certainly don't feel old. A bit of a boring fart and socially isolated because of my work, but I don't feel old.

Oh, with respect to A116 saying the Ben Goldacre is fit. Looks to me like a self-satisfied and smug fart from his pics on Google Images. I'd choose your men more wisely if I were you. Have you considered Sylvester Stallone?

This is quite an amusing thread. I have had friends at undergrad level who used to pay for articles and most of them were such a pile of crap that they tended to get very poor marks. Paying for essays is a real lottery and I suppose the buyer ultimately gets what they deserve in most cases.

First PhD application..Do I continuing applying?
W

Hiya Jimmy, I'd recommend searching this forum a bit. Over time there have been many people in a similar situation (2.2 and a good masters) and from what I can recollect, it has never proven to be a problem. From my own personal experience, I applied for a couple of PhDs and was knocked back twice before finally geting one, so good luck and don't give up (up)

I wanna do PhD and need funding as well
W

Hmmm, stick this in Google and some stuff you're asking about comes up: phd water treatment with funding

Don't forget to thank me later ;-)

starting salary postdoc UK?

Very well put, XJR. Blimey, if it's something you really enjoy and you're getting paid well above the minimum wage, then how can you complain?

That sounds well good, Sleepyhead! Good luck with it all. You sound erudite and an accomplished worker anyway, so you should be fine. Good luck.;-)

A PhD isn't a real job though is it? Grrrrrrr.....

Quote From Laney:

I think it's something you just have to get used to. I've been getting all this grief off my mates throughout my PhD. The thing with a PhD is that it's something that you don't understand unless you've been through it, and not many people have. They assume it's like an undergrad degree, where some courses allow you free time, which gives students a bad name.

At the moment (and for the last year) I've been working 70+ hours a week. Most of my mates with "proper jobs" work half that. I just point this out to them and have resigned myself to the fact that they'll never understand.

Holy crap, you must be working 10 to 12 hours a day! Stay sane, Florence.

Rosy, if you don't have the option, you need to download a little add on from the Microsoft office website and then you can - dead simple. Phdbug, if you use a trial version of Adobe Acrobat 9 (the full program), you will find an option to save a pdf in Word document format.

If you use Word 2007, it has the ability to save your document in .pdf format. Otherwise, download a trial version of Adobe Acrobat 9 and convert it using that - you should have no problems.
