Can I ask what your background is, Phd99? Do you have an undergrad or postgrad degree related to the area you're going to research?

Thanks, Bilbo and Jepson. I've taken a look at quite a few other thesis and the appendices in those are really quite short - just ethical approval letters, info sheets and the like. I'm thinking that I might just do that and then have all the raw data and analyses, for the different stages of my research on a CD.

I'm taking a break from writing up to put my PHD appendices together and I'm a bit uncertain. With all of the information sheets, protocols and the data analysis sections, my appendix is going to bigger than the actual PhD. Surely that's wrong? I could be acting dumb, but I'd have thought all this stuff has to go in?

My intention to submit form has been submitted. I have one more chapter to write. This could all be over by February, fingers crossed. Just thinking about it makes my bladder feel full, like I constantly need a wee. Barring renal failure and diabetes, I'm really just hoping it's nerves. I've got so much left to do, in the way of the chapter, some corrections and building a bibliography. But, I can see light at the end of the tunnel and it has the power of a million candles.

Sorry, I've stupidly missed the first bit of your post (I'm tired) - disregard what I said earlier. I think you'd be able to do a PhD with only an MSc, but funding could be difficult because a lot of people you are competing may have both an undergrad and MSc. Sorry I can't be more help.

Hi RC23, I could be wrong, but as a bare minimum I'm pretty sure you need an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline (generally 2.1+ for funding) to do a PhD. Have you thought about doing an undergrad first at the OU, perhaps? I've never heard of anyone going straight onto a doctorate without at least a BSc or BA.

I'm in exactly the same position as Peljam. And I'm looking a further few months before I've successfully completed my PhD, so you're not alone :-)

So, I'm coming out of the job centre today (still no job, but I haven't finished writing up anyway) and I got stopped by a news reporter. I initially thought she was trying to sign me up for Littlewoods. Anyway, she wasn't. She asked me my opinion of the Condem coalition and what I thought about the future of it. Well, I gave her my opinion all right. And I shoved the boot in with regards to what they're doing with higher education. I was pretty shocked to see myself on TV though. :$

Sorry if this is a stupid question, EV, but is Window's 7 installed on it now, or is it vista (which is unstable) and you want to upgrade to 7? If it's the latter, make a recovery disk, do the repair installation of Vista and then upgrade to 7.

If you do a repair installation, you shouldn't lose any programs. Have you still got a restore CD that may have come with the laptop? It'll make the process easier and have all the drivers for your laptop.

DNS is really very good; the latest version has improved accuracy and it gets better the more you use it (It's about 97% accurate). What I will say, if you're going to get it, make sure you have a fairly good quality mic and make sure your PC is a reasonably well powered one (dual or quad core) for optimum performance.

I really should stop procrastinating, but I had to check out the reviews of GT5. I haven't played any games for a long, long time. But I like cars and this was the game I was going to buy when I finish my PhD and get my PS3 back off my friend, whom I gave it to for, ahem, safe keeping. Anyway, it has received a lot of criticism for offering nothing particularly new and not pushing the boundaries enough, though it's still supposed to be okay. Gah, I was really hoping that it would be something special. I don't know whether, even if I can magic some dosh from somewhere, I'm going to buy it now.(up)
