If factor E is a mediatory factor that you have not directly measured can you assert and justify your insight using any supportive literature in the discussion? Sometimes, as I've found, qualitative data analysis is great for uncovering such insights but by the time you have it's too late to do anything about it. Hindsight...[insert cliche here].

I got 640 points the last time I played - didn't make it into even the top 100 though. Mmm, the only thing about hangman using this thread is that you can't actually draw the hangman. :-(

Looks like I'll be eating Naan and pita bread in future then and I'll have to think twice about drinking - that won't last long though. I've lost this argument - damn. I shall leave you to your marmitephile ways.

Hey B,

It has come to my attention that Z does not offer any ancillary
research conduction and thesis writing facilities, which can make doing a
post-graduate degree particularly stressful at times. Do you think that you
could bring this up at the next meeting, please?

Many Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for your suggestion, ill defiantly bring it up and get back to you about what they think and if they suggest any solutions.

Thanks again

I can't believe he fell for it and I feel dead guilty now

I should be ashamed of myself - I know. But I got an e-mail last night from my post-grad uni rep asking about matters he could bring up with members of academic staff and I took advantage of his kind nature. In my defence I can say that I was having a particularly difficult evening with my work and needed a bit of a laugh:-x I kind of think it's funny in a small-minded way, so I hope you don't mind me posting it. It may even help us get more in the Christmas spirit as we near the big, and ultimately (for me), anti-climactic day. I've hidden names in order to prevent identification and save me from possible disciplinary procedures.

Hi,

I'm X, and I've just taken the position as student rep for the Post Graduate
student body this year.

Id like to take a couple of minutes to introduce myself and tell you about what
I'm going to be doing over this year.

I have just started a PhD here at Xand will be working in the field of
Y. I'm new(ish) to Z, however have just completed
a Masters at A so I'm used to and understand, the
challenges, pressures and sometimes hectic lifestyle involved in a Post grad
degree.

In my capacity as Student Rep I will be meeting with academic staff twice a
semester to chat about what's going well and what maybe needs a little more
work.

So If you have any worries, issues or praise for our support, lecture programmes
and services or if you think there is something missing which you would like to
see in the future then please let me know and I will bring it up at a meeting.

Feel free to email me, or just pop along to...

I hope you have all enjoyed the autumn semester and are looking forward to a
well deserved Xmas break, with an over abundance of rich food and drink,

Have fun, as always,
B

Eska, yeast by-product is a euphemism for yeast dung. Sneaks, I wish you hadn't blown a hole in my argument with a shotgun-like counter-argument, but... It's the CO2 from yeast that makes the bread rise, SO...that's not yeast plop. Now then, the alcohol that comes from yeast when making beer...stoichiometry of it is C2H5OH - that's not the formula for yeast dung and it's also a recreational drug, so it doesn't count. Unlike with marmite, which is made from scrapings off the bottom of beer fermentation tanks after they have finished brewing beer. That's why it's so cheap - it's in plentiful supply. Maria, I'm surprised at you for liking marmite and I don't even know you from Adam.

R.E. the vegemite vs marmite debate - I'm still waiting for a response from my good world-leading expert friends in yeast-based products.:p

Sorry, Maria is sensible and a connoisseur of fine foodstuffs. It is Megra that I am surprised with.

Christmas Card Etiquette
W

Hello Ev, I've never given my supervisors a Christmas card and wouldn't. I am a bit of a cheapskate though and have been to ask that any card sent to me be written in pencil, so that I can rub it out and then send it back to the senders, thus making us equal. I don't suppose it would do any harm though, and I think it is quite thoughtful.(tree)

Marmite

I was being facetious but vegetables are actually storage organs, so I was calling them offal.

Marmite
W

Well, the votes are in and my thesis has been confirmed: marmite is well minging. Now the vegimite (which according to the ingredients is microbial dung and vegetable offal) versus marmite (all microbial dung)...I shall post the verdict when I receive it tomorrow.

Now, let me see about the underlying epistemological and ontological (aargh!) positions ... knowledge is generated randomly and by coincidence, reality is what students underline in library books.

Bloody hell Moonblue, you've just described the basis of my PhD!

Yes! We're at 50-50! I only need one more marmite hater - should be easy to find - and then I have proven my thesis that marmite is disgusting. R.e. the marmite versus vegimite discussion, there's only one way to find out... I want to bring a bit of science into this, so I've sent of an e-mail to Lesaffre, world leaders in the yeasts market no less, to ask them which they think is better. I'll post the response on here when I get it and settle this once and for all.
