Hi folks! Sorry my internet connection has decided to give up on me so it's not working very well these days! Brilliant news on the test results Sue, now you can focus on other slightly less terrible things! Surely puts the PhD in perspective eh?! and AL, I hope your results come back ok, just get whatever rest you can and plenty of vitamins ets. Maybe if your examiner has double booked himself it could be a good thing in that you'll have more time to prepare, although I can totally relate to just wanting the whole thing over with! But either way, I'm sure you will pass no problem :-)
Good luck everyone!
Hi there
I'm just finishing off now, should be submitting in just under 2 weeks, and never bothered with any of that stuff. I made plans and reassessed everything every so often, but I've found that the project changed so much over the years and I had to be very flexible in terms of what I could do and when that those kinds of charts and things were just redundent after a week or two. But then I'm in a science field and was working with 2 other labs so I had work around them a lot!
Brilliant news Sue!! now you can focus on just one insanely busy thing at a time eh?! Good luck for the interview, I'm sure you will be great at it, especially when it's the dream job, just let your enthusiasm shine through :)
And Rick, great news that you've handed in, I hope everything is going ok with your papers! That's you and AL all sorted, can't wait til it's me saying I'm sorted!!
And Teek, keep on trucking, and struggling thorough. We will get there. even if I have to lock the door to the room I'm now studying in to keep my mum from coming in and talking to me every five minutes, we'll get there!!
Aww thanks everyone! That really means a lot. My parents think I'm a bit silly for being so attached I think, my mum said 'it's just a fish' :-(
But he was my fish and he was a bit mental and I thought he was great! Dammit he was great! Fact! But you are right, I can't hold it against the new fish so in time I will try not to hold a grudge against him. I have no job when I'm finished so I can't afford the therapy for him any Eska.. :) Although, we have a big fish pond outside so I'm tempted to put him in that, might be better if he has company. Sharky killed any other fish that was put in with him so that's why he was on his own, but I think normal fish might prefer another fish to chat to!
I got home from France tonight, moving home for the final few weeks so I can hand in the second I'm finished, and I went to say hello to my little goldfish and discovered an imposter in his place! It seems my fish died last week when I was away, and my parents didn't to tell me over the phone. They also got a new one just in case I wouldn't realise....right.
An ex boyfriend bought me my fish years ago during my undergrad, I've had him for about 5 or 6 years and although he was a bit of a bossy boots and tortured every other animal that went into the tank with him, including headbutting a slurpy fish and torturing a snail, I loved him. Cos he was that little bit mad. And he had lipstick, a little red line that went across his top lip. I'm totally gutted :-(
I'm not sure if I can ever bond with the new fish in the same way...sounds ridiculous and pathetic, but every time I look at him I think it should be Sharky... Not really sure why I'm posting this, just wanted to share I suppose..
Thank you!! Just Pm'd there :)
Hi folks
Sorry about this but my smelly uni doesn't seem to have access to this paper and print copies are only until 2005..
It's on Informa Healthcare, and if anyone has access and is able to send it to me it would be much appreciated!!

Hi Lucas, I'm not an engineering person at all, but I would say unless you 'need' a phd for what you want to do, or you have the luxury of being able to take your time doing it and are ok with the smaller wage and know you'll still be able to get a decent job after, then don't do one. The applicability of a PhD in the job market is very variable depending on what your field is, so you should check first perhaps and see if it is beneficial in your field or if it will help you with promotions etc down the line, and then decide on that. Unless you have a plan for a project that is burning a hole inside your brain and you absolutely must do research for the sheer love of it.
Whoo I can see why you're feeling pressured MaltildaL! I don't think you should panic too much though, your health is the most important thing right now, the PhD is not. I think you can get it submitted for def before the baby, it might not be in 6 weeks but you still have some leeway. Try not to stress too much, sometimes that slows down the pace at which you can work (happens to me anyway, my brain just freezes for ages...). Decide a set amount of hours that you will work that day, and try and get it outside of the time the kitchen work is being done if at all possible. Working with building noise is not nice!! Allow yourself time to rest/nap when you need it, and just let yourself be pregnant! You never know, those hormones might all charge to your brain at some stage and make you super productive :-)
Well, I did get one section corrected yesterday, which was just a pitiful waste of a day. I really need to get more done today, at least one more section, although I'm moving back to my home country this afternoon so still have to pack and all, so I really only have until about 1pm. which is in 2.5 hours here...yikes!
I hope everyone is having a better time of it than me!
Sciences here, but mine is quite long for that, I'm currently at about 12000 and have been asked to include extra tables and stuff, so god knows how much longer it will be. Really would like to shorten it though...
lol, 5 star is the new masterplan Sneaks, with all these people being over qualified for jobs and whatnot, we need 5 stars to give that extra edge on our CV :-) only a matter of time though!
And Wally, sorry about your dinner there, couldn't resist it though! :-) Perhaps I'll not channel Kate for my PhD acknowledgements though....
um well usually I make vegetable or minestrone soup, but as far as tinned soup goes, heinz tomato soup is nice, and there is a range of baxters soups, that ave a spicy tomato one with rice in it. They are nice, and not too tinny on the taste. But if you are buying premade soup I'd see if you can get the stuff in a cardboard carton, tastes much nicer
:) I'm glad it went well Sneaks, maybe your sup does have a valid reason for a rather strange request! Hope the work stuff pans out ok!
ugh I'm properly feeling sorry for myself today, I'm feeling all sick :( I'm so tired and my head is so sore I'm trying to read stuff for my corrections and the words are just swimming in front of me. I really don't like this bit anymore.
Goal today is to make a good start on corrections for chapter 1 although at this stage if I get one section corrected I'll be surprised...
