Diet-exercise-health pacts thread

A

alright!! I've been lurking around this thread for long enough, it's time I made some decisions and stuck to them! Today I'm going to circuits! I've been trying to get back to being all healthy for ages, I did so well going to the gym before, starting in Jan 08 and I kept it up until May last year when I went and broke my wrist and couldnt do anything for ages and got used to being lazy again and it's taken this long to get back into it! I've put on most of the weight I lost and am raging with myself! SO!!
Breakfast is porridge (the Oats so Simple stuff is simply the most wondorous thing I've come across in ages) with a slice of toast and water.
I'm gona have some sort of yoghurt/fruit snack in the morning and afternoon, soup for lunch and some sort fo healthy salady thing for dinner.
I've got a holiday in June and a boyfriend living in the south of france where I will inevitably be made to attempt surfing or bodyboarding or something and I've not going on those beaches in my current bodily state!! Also exercise is good for the mind and all that! :-)

I did it! I did curcuits and I survived!

There was one moment when I thought I might not get through this, but I did it! And it was great fun! Totally definitely doing back next week! Pilates tomorrow, dancing on Saturday and Sunday!

Well done algaequeen!

I have faced facts today and have started afresh. Since losing 2 stone last year my wii fit informs me this morning that I have put back on 12 pounds - these need to go! I have convinced my hubby to join me in my diet (although I did notice he sneaked a wispa gold out of the house this morning). So I'm aiming to eat my 5 a day, eat a bigger meal at lunchtime, and a smaller one in the evening. I also want to eat about 1200 kcals a day and do some cardio.

So far today..

I've had 200kcal bowl of shredded wheat bitesize
taken a vitamin tablet
had a cup of roobois tea.
walked the dog for 20 mins

Problem is, I ate breakfast at 6am and now I'm STARVING. Any ideas?

1200 is quite low sneaks, make sure you don't scare your metabolism into curling up and calorie-grabbing. I'd build in snacks if I were you, surviving from nightime one day until lunch the next on just 200kcal is bound to leave you ravenous! I know you're not keen on fruit but how about a couple of rice cakes or crackers mid-morning? I also find that doing some exercise will (temporarily) banish any food cravings and perk me right up. All this written as I sit on my bum with a full fat latte.

I did an adventure race called the mighty deerstalker at the weekend, it was honestly the most fun I've had since I don't know when, I was on the most unbelievable high during and after! Miles of cross country with obstacles, mountains, river wading and head torch-reliant descents. The downside is that two days on my knee is still swollen up like ugly sausage meat, I can't walk or climb stairs properly, and I'm having the inevitable post-high slump :s Exercise is impossible for now but I will make an effort to eat a decent dinner even though I'm alone.

I've had 2 peices of cracker wheat stuff, like riveta for a snack, with extra low fat philidelphia. Just had jacket potatoe for lunch, but now feeling really sleepy. Going to take the dog out for another walk. Can't seem to get on with work today!

sneaks it could be the change in diet that has you really sleepy, if you're used to eating chocolate during the day and then cut it out you'll feel all sleepy for a while as you body gets used to not having the yummy chocolatey sugar!  But you will get used to it, and after a while you'll be brimming with proper energy, that kind that's good for your brain! That's what I keep telling myself anyway!
I'm v proud of me, did lots of exercise over the weekend, well, for me anyway! Friday was pilates and dance practice, sat was a big walk, and sunday we had a guest dance instructor who I was dancing with for 2.5 hours, shattered at the end!  great fun tho! :D  Even was all healthy and had seabass and salad for dinner last night instead of the creamy pasta I was planning, whoo! Just have to try to be good tonight, anyone know a healthy, easy, way to cook beef mince?!

ok, so it didn't go too well, I ended up binging on sugar and then had a massive headache, which was kinda predictable. I think I tried to be too good i.e. giving up caffeine and sugar on the same day just wasn't going to happen. So today I am cutting down in sugar and cutting out the coffee, but going to allow normal tea. So far I've...

- 1 cup of tea
- 1 innocent smoothie (2 of 5 a day)
- 1 vitamin tablet
- had frosted wheats mmmm sugar
- taken dog out for 25 mins

I'm a bit stuck for what to eat for lunch. I'm having butternut squash soup, with no bread for dinner, so I was going to have a larger lunch, but have no idea what to buy.

try egg salad sneaks, its great. salad has practically no calories so you can eat tons of it, and a really good low fat vinigarette is 2 parts (good) olive oil, 1 part balsamic vinigar, salt, pepper and a splash of normal sarsons malt vinegar, soo tasty. throw in some tomatoes (separately season them with salt and pepper first, makes all the difference) and warm hard boiled eggs and its yummy, plenty of protein and good fats but none of the bad stuff :)

hmm because of my aversion to cold food I opted for scrambled egg on toast - toast which was made by me at home (well breadmaker bread). So not exactly healthy but probably a smaller meal or less sugar loaded than I usually have. I was also conscious that if I didn't have something substantial I would end up binging again in the late afternoon.

Plan is to have a snack - maybe an apple? at about 4-5pm and then soup for dinner, which is butternut squash, veg stock and onion, so 0 calories (don't burst my bubble!)

I must stop eating cheese straight from the packet, I'm kidding myself massively about how much those slice by slice portions add up to! I did have a yummy warm salad for lunch though, and now some yogurt and tea. I'm sure normal people are capable of going more than an hour without snacks, there's obviously something quite wrong with me :p

Hmm great going everyone! (teek at least you won't get brittle bones in later life!)

Breakfast was 2 apples and green tea. Lunch was a bagel with boiled chicken, lettuce and tomato, and a slice of choc cake. In a little while snack will be green tea and a banana. Then apple late eveningish. Dinner will be just anything (for I've had 4 a day by now) plus a pear and green tea for dessert

ok I thought I'd post back on this as I am really flagging motivation wise! Somehow, even though I've been eating as well as I can without selling my soul to a diet book, and I've been doing as much exercise as I can fit in to my pretty busy schedule (3.5 months left til submission....gah) I have managed to put on weight! I'm seriously getting fed up, someone help me keep going!!!
I really don't want to have to start counting out cornflakes every morning, I'll just totally hate my life at that stage...

I was thinking about this thread today - how odd.

I have not stayed on my diet - at all! In fact I have developed rather an addiction to mini kievs - I know they are made out of non-free range as well which makes me feeel SO guilty, but they are so yummy! I think I will have to adopt an ex-battery hen or two to make up for it, and maybe donate money to a chicken charity?

I've lost all motivation and the hot days completely put me off wanting to exercise and I'm turning into a big lump o' lard :-(

Not sure what to do about it really. I think the secret probably lies in exercise, rather than strict diet as I can't concentrate when cutting calories.

A

lol sneaks, how did that happen?! It's actually really easy to make your own if you really need the taste without the guilt!

I'm trying to exercise as much as I can, doing the gym, pilates, flamenco and circuits!! Plus I walk everywhere, including walking to and from work every day. My boyf had the cheek to say that I'm obviously not exercising intensely enough though, which really peeved me off! If I do any more, I'll not make it home from the gym in future!! I'm not sure if I'm just more tired these days though and that's why I'm maybe not getting as much from the exercise, I'm not sure! It's so frustrating.

My mum told me that loads of people she knows have started going to Slimming World, where you can eat lots of food though, so I might try that. Apparently the weight is just falling off them. I think if I try that and still nothing happens, I'm giving up!

wow you do LOADS of exercise. I do walk my dog and fool about playing just dance, but I need to get back on my exercise bike. I was thinking about joining slimming world, problem is, unless hubby sticks to it to, there's no point, because otherwise I end up having to buy 2 meals for every meal! v expensive :-(
