lara, you have done loads!!! Well done! I have spent most the day at a couple of recruitment agencies getting my details on their system etc so have not been about and i am amazed at what you have acheived today. Absolutely brilliant! Well done.
Armendaf, hope the lecture goes well and that you have had a good day. It is brilliant you found that stuff you wrote ages ago and that you have used this in your write up, you are really getting there now, fantastic!!

Like i say, i joined these recruitment agencies and in one i had to do a multiple choice test!! I think to show i have used some of the methods in my CV. Anyway, fingers crossed that soon I will have a few job interviews. I am ok for september and October but really need to be in a job by the end of October so hopefully something will come up. I am not fussy at this stage, just need some money to pay the rent etc!! Anyway will let you know if anything comes up!
Anyway, i am now going to watch the football (can't miss it as it'd a world cup qualifier!!) and then do a couple of hours work. tomorrow i am going to do a mammoth day of writing as fingers crossed (although i don't want to tempt fate!!) I will have my thesis finished by tomorrow evening!! Then I want to spend the weekend reading every chapter again before printing on Monday and submitting on Tuesday!!! This is my plan anyway, although i don't want to tempt fate in case something crops up (nightmares about my sup saying it is rubbish and i have to re-write everything!!)! Anyway, will see how it goes!!

Thanks so much Armendaf! I am still trying to finish the discussion, i am taking your advice and really sticking to the esstentials now. i have to finish the discussion by tonight, so i can work on the other chapters.

i am clocking out for today. i finally finished writing all the content for the discussion section for chapter 4. it just needs to be edited and put in order. which i will do later on in the week. total words i wrote today = 2775 words.
but i am too tired to edit it and read through it, i need to leave it for a few days so i can go back to it with fresh eyes.

i'm so behind schedule though!! but must not panic, it just means i gotta work extra extra extra hard for the rest of the week to get all my chapters done!

tommorow i must write the discussion section for chapter 3. and must only spend a few hours on it. as i need to start sorting out the results section for chapters 3 and 4. they are such a mess!!!

tommorow's aims:
write discussion section for chapter 3 (expand on the discussion section that i copied from my first paper: spend maximum 3 hours on it, hopefully!)

sort out results for chapter 3 and 4, add additional analysis to both chapters.

must get it done tommorow, or i am in big trouble!

okay i am way too tired to do anymore work tonight. i guess i need to sleep to function.

Hi everyone,

Fantastic progress from you all yesterday! Well done! I didn't get everything done. Implementing my supervisors comments is taking longer than I thought, but then she was really really thorough. It's okay though, I will re-adjust today and just make sure I reach my end of week target.

I have a very important meeting with her today to discuss thesis overview/examiners/hand-in date/money(!) so today will be a good and productive day not just for writing! I have declared it! I have all sorts of other things on today (you know how it is sometimes) but I aim to finish editing my methods, intro, results and possibly discussion for section 2. But I also have to fit in career advice meeting, waiting in for british gas to fix the boiler, body pump and combat class, and helping my friend build a bed... so we will see!

Good to hear progress of everyone! it keeps us motivated and feel that we are not all alone in the world ;-) I think Lara is getting a deserved sleep after completing the task. So, my tasks didn't go according to the plan. I was aiming to finish the results section but got side tracked and wrote a part of the introduction. An interesting paper was just on the desk and wanted to write about that. Anyway there was in total about 400 words yesterday not so happy, but I keep reminding myself its still the beginning.

Today-
Finish the results section completely-I have been sticking to the chair since 9am so by 12 I have to finish at least the descriptive stuff,tables.

I'm joining you today. I couldn't stand the sight of anything PhD-related yesterday, so went off and met someone and did other things, as I couldn't dredge up even a microscopic amount of motivation, but today is ok *phew!!* Sometimes it seems a completely bizarre way to live, working all the time and spending my hol on PhD stuff, so I had to go off and try to remind myself why I was actually doing it. It worked, luckily!

I must say Lara and Tractorgirl, your ability to keep on going with it is quite amazing and very inspiring, you're like the Duracell battery bunnies or cybermen or something... sorry, it is a bit early for me to think of a better metaphor, depends whether you prefer slightly kitsch, fluffy creatures or evil aliens I guess, but intended as a compliment if you can extract that part of it!!

Lara LOL!! You clocked up a huge wordcount yesterday, so hopefully ending up as rotting flesh won't be your final destiny!

Tractorgirl, hope you get something good from the agencies soon and enjoyed the footie, I could hear the cheering resonating all the way up the road round here when they scored, you don't even need to watch the match to know the result lol! Missed DM but will watch it today, naturally!

Armendaf, hope your lecture went well and you're not too knackered from it.

Hi everyone,

I came back home completely wrecked last night after lecturing and couldn't drag myself to even turning on the computer. The lecture went well though, I gave them something to think about and hopefully that'll keep them motivated for the rest of the module. I use this teaching strategy called "problem based learning" which works well: at the beginning of the course I get them into trouble, and they have to learn to get out of it and pass. That way they pull the information from me instead of me having to push it to them. Anyway...

This morning my internet service was down so only now I could read your posts. I'm very impressed to hear the progress that Lara and TG have made. Very good girls keep going you are almost there; Lara just keep in mind that after your viva they are going to give you corrections anyway, so no point in fussing to much about it now. As long as everything that you need to make your point(s) is in, you'll be grand; the fine detail you'll work out after the discussion with your examiners.

Rubyw, you and I are right behind them, so let's keep it positive and try to catch up. We can do this.

Sheena and Minamina, you are doing great integrating into the writers club. Keep posting and let us know how you are doing.

Today I'm working from home, so I'll have (yet) another attempt to finishing this chapter, I know I won't, but I'll be happy with any section completion beyond the first half of it. So, that is my aim: first half finished (section 3.1) and any progress on the second half (section 3.2). I also have to email my supervisor asking for an extension. Well, is something that we can all avail to, it's called the "Dean's Grace" and gives you a chance to submit on the end of October rather than at the normal date of the end of September, I just need to sort it out in advance.

Hope everybody is having a good day. Armendaf: I'm not surprised you were tired after lecturing!! I really admire you for doing this on top of the PhD. I think it is just amazing, not only are you doing all these lectures but you also also doing so much writing too!! Hope today is going well and look luck with Chapter 3!!

Lara: What a massive amount of work you have done this week, you should be really proud. I have every faith in you that you will meet your deadline of next week. You are nearly there!!!!!! Just keep on going, bit by bit. I think i am definitely going to have to cancel the car i had hired for our running away at the end of September!!!!! Well done and good luck with your aims today.
Rubyw: I don't blame you having a non-PhD day yesterday!! Sometimes it is so good to have a decent break and rest!!!!!! So much of our time is taken up with all the writinf, worrying, writing, panicking etc that a break is needed!!! Definitely helps to clear the mind. Hope today goes well, and good luck with your aims! DM on soon!!!
Sheena: Don't worry, you are right!! It is only the beginning. Don't be too hard on yourself about yesterday, what you did get done sounds great and there have been so many times i have written down aims and then not completed them!!!!!! Try not too be annoyed and good luck today!!

As for me, well i have nearly finished!!! Just need to make sure the contents page is formatted correctly and then done!!! Mind you won't be happy until it is submitted on Tuesday so not getting too excited yet! Lara, you are right about backing everything up!! I am so paranoid!! What if it all gets lost!! Anyway, i have back ups of the back ups just in case!!!!
Anyway, by later this afternoon fingers crossed will be done. Then printing out and will read over the weekend before printing at work on Monday. Like i said though, i am not getting excited until the end of Tuesday just because i worry too much and don't want to tempt anything going wrong!!
Anyway, the good news is that my boyfriend just called and suprised me by saying he has tomorrow off and that we are going away to Wales for the weekend for a break!!! I will take my thesis to re-read in the evening but i am really suprised!! We haven't had a holiday at all this year so a weekend break because the nightmare of printing etc is well needed!!!!!! Anyway, just to say i won't be able to post again until Monday so i just wanted to wish everyone a good weekend. good luck with all the aims over the weekend and hope you also have great days tomorrow!! I think we have all come so far and should definitely celebrate at the end of it all!!
