distant PhD - leading Universities?

B

Why do you ask if the TOEFL is obligatory? If you want to complete your studies in English, then you kind of need to prove to the institution that you can speak and write it to a high standard!

G

No, I don't ask - I know!

Hi,

I am from Holland although I live in Germany.

I can conform, if I may say so, that the Dutch universities, especially Erasmus in Rotterdam are of high quality.
Most people speak English and or German, yet it also expected that you speak English well (a bit of Dutch would be a bonus).
From a city life point of view Leiden, Utrecht and Groningen are great!

G

Thanks a lot! What about the other Universities? In Leiden, Utrecht. . . Can u advise me about the finding of a promoter? I know English and German. Now will start to prepare myself for TOEFL, aldough some of the supervisors do not want it obligatory.

R

As I said I am abroad (for quite a few years already) so I cannot give you specific names. The universities have research departments ("onderzoek")which you can contact (will normally also be on the websites)
Alternatively you could look at phd positions ("post doctoraal") in dutch newspapers (like "De Volkskrant") or in the relevant professional journals (for medical like in the BMJ etc.)

G

Thank u very much! BTW, is it trough that making PhD in Germany is extremely hard, because:
- they do not offer distant work
- the thesis must be in German
- you have to know the German legal system very well, before proceeding a research?
