Sounds like sweetchic is a psycho-bitch and shouldn't be allowed on this forum, let alone allowed to do a PhD!

G

It's easy for people to misunderstand each other online. Incredulus, the implication made in your concluding sentence contradicted the body of your text and stepped into hypocrisy. Ian, that isn't productive either.

G

As a scientist looking for a PhD I would not reject advice from academics/postdocs/students from other sectors of research. Yes, there are differences between science and social science but there are also alot of similarities when producing primary research, papers, or theses. Sweetchic, I'm not going to tell you to apologise - this is a matter for you to decide; however, if you plan to remain in academia you should really learn how to deal with advice, and peoples differing opinions as throughout your career you will defending your research and fending off criticism.

keep the circus going. sweetchic will always be on this site and those worrying about whether she has a phd, guess what, she does.

Sweetchic is entitled to an Apology from Ann. Ann, being a PostDoc does not mean that you disrespect your juniors by talking down to them even if they are seeking your advice. the words rather inaccurate impression are in my opinion uncalled for. You simply could have said that you disagreed. Everyone on this site, i thought, is entitled to express their opinion.

Dear Prof Simms, Thank you for your post. I’ve only ever tried to be helpful on this forum and would never disrespect anyone. I’m not the sort of person to seek conflict, quite the reverse, and I’ve found this rather upsetting. I am sorry that Sweetchic was angered by my comments but I think it is clear that this was never my intention. I’m grateful for the support from Claire, Jenny, Anon German et al. I hope that we can all move on now and get back to using this forum for constructive purposes. Best regards.

Getting back to the original subject- Sweetchic, in science you have to pay the paper to get your article published. One of our last publications cost 2 000£ to publish (but this was also because it had may colour pictures in it). This may be different in your field but you should try to find out about it.

G

Pay for publication? that's very new to me. does anyone know what happens in social sciences? my impression is that what matters is how good and relevant the paper is, but I will have to find out more about this. £2000 sure is a lot of money = my accomodation for a whole year.

This Prof. R. Simms character is a bit full on! Ann was in no way being disrespectful to the message poster. Frankly, these negatove and antagonistic responses are pretty pathetic! Although, as a hypocrite, I might add that "sweetchic" does seem like a bit of a freak.

G

regarding paying for publication -I had a paper published in a social science journal recently and something was mentioned about publishing fees, but the department i am studing at covered the fees (no idea how much this was). This kind of issue, makes it difficult to publish if you are not assigned to a particular university, who can pay these costs!

G

sweetchic is making it big on this side of the world, soon you'll be reading all about her in your papers. if that's what freaks do, then isn't it so cool to be a freak?

G

hey Jean, is it possible to find out how much these fees were? that would really help...at least an estimate. thanks for your contribution.

G

apparently to publish in top journals in economics, you pay $300 which you get back if the journal publishes the article and if they don't get it back.....if that's the case, i should get my article reviewed as many times as possible.

G

sorry, if they don't you don't get it back (spelling).

G

sweetchic - you are one of the rudest people on this forum. I have read most of Annes post and she is helpful and non judgemental to everyone. Maybe you should try and be more like her.
