Don't worry sneaks, presenting to a non-specialist audience is so much more relaxed and enjoyable than dealing with other academics - for one thing, no one will know if you get it wrong! I think you might be surprised by how liberating you find working without powerpoint as well. Just treat it like a pub discussion (although maybe go easy on the beer until after your session)
hmm - gym, you sound far too dedicated. I have just eaten half a green and blacks white choc bar (yes the big ones). Now feeling sleepy.
My target is another 3 analyses by the end of today though!
I'm either dedicated or crazy. I'm training for a really big event, and so have to factor in my training each day or my coach shakes his head at me :-( At the same time, I have to get my PhD work done or my sup shakes his head at me. I can't win really, so use each one to motivate me to do the other.... if that makes any sense.
I'd much rather snuggle under a blanket and eat chocolate than do either if I'm honest.
500 words to go... :-)
woo - is it running? I can't run cos i have the back issue - what a shame! I do however do craziness on my recumbant exercise bike when I have it (we have been living away from home for 4 months) and it keeps my back in check - I haven't been into my uni for 5 weeks now cos of my back so need it really. We are moving back to the bike in xmas woo hoo! I get to watch dvds while on it so that's a bonus.
Just had my 3pm shower - a ritual for me! and now going to do the last few thematic analyses before OH gets home. The kid ilive with has brought another one home - both 5 years which is slightly annoying but maybe I can just teach them some swear words or something to pass the time.
out tomorrow to uni for the first time in 5 weeks and then doing the dreaded presentation so my aim for tomorrow.
- get through the day without too much pain
- do the presentation without messing it up too much or insulting people
- get home without need for an ambulance
will check in again friday (up)
no, not running. I'm a rower. Although saying that, I am doing a running race this weekend. I'm not sure why because I can't stand running and look a little like Phoebe from Friends when I do run, but, hey... someones got to amuse the serious runners!
Yesterday, I just about managed my 3000 words before hitting the gym.
Today, the plan is:
- decide what I'm saying at conference tomorrow
- re-read the garbage I wrote yesterday and try make it sound like a PhD student wrote it
- finish 1st section of the chapter
Good luck with your presentation today Sneaks!! I'm sure it'll go fabulously!!
How is everyone today? Yesterday went well - presentation had no problems. managed to get a load of admin stuff off my back at uni.
Today:
- write an article for the mag in our discipline.
- thematic analysis :-s
- organise my desk/life for work next week.
So far I have answered some emails, and I have done some online xmas shopping :$
Going to have an early lunch and a massive cup of coffee, write the article and then go watch a dvd (up) I'm so tired!
After a weekend away from things, and a very painful day out of the house I am going to get some non-PhD work e.g. consultancy stuff out of the way tonight and settle down into that thematic analysis publication tomorrow!
Today.....
- go to dr
- make cup of coffee
- sit down and do thematic analysis and get it all done today so its not hanging over my head until xmas!!!
- try not to spend all day staring at and answering stupid emails.
today's plan. to proofread my entire thesis so far - 5 chapters and submit to my supervisor by three o'clock.
1 chapter an hour.
9.30 am - 11.30 am - Ch. 5
11.30am - 12.30pm - Ch. 4
1pm - 2pm -Ch.1 &2
2pm -3pm - Ch. 3
3pm - email it to sup. rush off to office and print a copy for proofreading.
Hi guys.
Hope everyone is well!!
Today I am going to:
- book all my conference stuff for Jan :-)
- get at LEAST the first half of chapter 5 done
- sort out my council tax exemption form
Sneaks, I'm glad your presentation went well on Thurs. my conference on Fri went really well too :-)
ooh well done on the conference jimkin
I've done the Dr - she was an idiot and just prescribed me more painkillers that I can't take because I can't concentrate on my PhD with them :-s
But I did get signed off work for a month :p
Aww Sneaks I hope you're ok!! A month of work though... ace! Extended Xmas holiday!! :-)
I have sorted my council tax stuff out. (up)
... now I'm onto getting the chapter (or at least the first half) done. I've also emailed about booking all my conference stuff... but will have to wait until I get a reply before I can check that one off...
