The One Goal Thread

B

Morning anyone who is about.

I have a race against time this morning. I need to leave for uni by 11:30am, so that gives me around 90 minutes to finish writing a draft of the writing i've been working on. Not sure whether this is possible, but I need it to be!

Goal 1- WRITE WRITE WRITE!

Morning Button! (And anyone else who's around!)

Good luck with meeting the deadline!

I have a deadline too - meeting with supervisor in 3 hours when I'm supposed to present the next draft of my questionnaire. I've been working on it a lot but just haven't made any progress. So, three hours to try to pull together everything I've thought about in the last week and get it all down on paper!

B

Phew, writing done!

Morning batfink, my race against time was also due to meeting sup! Hope you get everything sorted for your meeting.

Off to get ready for uni now!

Didn't get everything written before supervision, but my supervisor only had twenty minutes spare anyway apparently, and looked at what I'd done so far, and just said to get a proper draft done by next Wednesday and that he was happy with what I was doing. Phew!

Tasks for this afternoon:
1.) Write up brief notes from very brief meeting with supervisor 1!
2.) Email supervisor 2 about meeting to discuss equipment needed for study
3.) Plan for meeting with potential hosts of second research study tomorrow morning
4.) Contact organisers of seminar event to discuss travel to Paris (woo!!!)
5.) Go back to redrafting questionnaire

C

Sounds like a lucky day for you, Batfink, but glad your sup is happy with your progress anyway!

The goal I set for myself on Friday - to read three chapters - has only just been achieved today, as I got a bit embroiled (following a meeting with a member of my Thesis Advisory Group) in editing my MA dissertation for attempted publication - I spent Friday afternoon faffing with referencing, basically, but submitted it electronically before leaving (phew!).

So I delayed my goal until today and have ground out the reading over more hours than it should have taken this afternoon. I'm really tired for some reason and I just can't read when I'm tired... hey ho! Goal achieved but I don't see much more happening in the half-hour before my Pilates class!

Evening everyone. I spent today travelling halfway across the country for a meeting with my potential postdoc mentor. He completely grilled me for over an hour which left me feeling frazzled but we are going to go ahead and apply for funding. :-)

He wants me to send him some stuff in the next few days though. So I am going to make a start at tackling the summary and objectives sections.

C

the goal: working on some chapters has done!!!
New goal is that prepare some theoretical sections for course....

S

Glad to see I'm not the only one working into the evening!

I have written a draft of the 'objectives' section which I'm quite pleased with. I am now going to have a quick dinner and then write the ethics section which will be fairly easy. I might have to stop after that as I have a huge knot in my stomach and need time to wind down before bed.

S

Morning all. I really didn't want to get up this morning because I was tossing and turning and feeling stressed out all night. Fail! However I need to put the hours in this week and would have messed things up by sleeping in.

My first goal is to wake up a bit while I do a few admin things, check a few things in the funding guidance and email the research office. My second goal is then to write a summary of my thesis progress.

My PhD is going badly, well it isn't really going at all. But I have so much on!

Today, I need to get my tax return done, write a lecture and get all references and notes up for students, look at a workshop I'm doing next friday and update, and then I need to do a load of non-PhD work. THen weds-fri this week I'm doing my RA work, so nothing on my PhD AGAIN :-(

Goal 1: look through lecture and get all the references

S

Oh dear Sneaks, sounds like your time is very much in demand. I hope you find time for PhD work soon!

I have written a draft of the summary of progress section. I am finding it really difficult because I am trying to put a certain spin on it to increase the chances of getting the award.

I'm now going to move on to writing the 'research and related achievements' section. I don't feel like I have many achievements so it might be a bit tough.

B

Morning all,

I've been at my desk since 8:30 this morning, but haven't done anything! I think it's because I haven't got mytomatoes on the go, and am busy after 3pm so seem to think I don't need to do anything today. But I must!

Goal 1- read info from 3 sources
Goal 2- sort folder out
Goal 3- scan through books got out yesterday to see if they are all useful
Goal 4- edit notes about original points

ooh button, I must have missed something. YOu are a VIP :-)

S

'Research and related achievements' section is drafted. It turned out to be pretty easy because I realised I'd written a chunk of it for another application. I have done soooo well today.

I am really starting to find it hard to focus (4-5 hours sleep the last 2 nights and the night before that I drank a bit too much) so I am going to have a break and go and work out before tackling the Impacts section.

I've nearly finished the lecture, going to have lunch, fnish it off and then move on to the next bit of work.
