lol Alpacalover.. i know what u mean. It is really hard for me because i had a change of supervisors and i dont know which one to thank first, not to mention the other 2 that i have and all the lab workers and friends and family. And yes i would love to thank people on here .. its really hard to know what to write. I was looking forward to this bit but i think its gonna take me as long as my conclusion and future work did ... lol
I have thought (day dreamed) about writing my acknowledgements. The bit that gets me is having to put names in you don't really want to thank e.g. the annoying supervisor who you never actually met and has never seen your work, but he wants to be on the publications etc. and other, more senior staff in your department that have given you patronising advice.
sneaks, I have daydreamed about it too, and have been saving it for a day when I physically can't face looking at chapters and do some more 'menial' tasks! now i have nothing to look forward to :(
Maybe we could write what we have to, and then after viva when it is approved and goes for final printing we could swap it for our preferred acknowledgments page? is that possible - i've considered doing it with a couple of things that my sup is determined about but I don't want to see in my final book!!
Emaa that sounds really terrible - you poor thing - I think that is probably one of the worst things a husband can say to his wife. I hope you can find some way to make yourself feel a little bit better.
On a personal note, I had a very productive meeting where my supervisor finally understood the complexity of the task we have undertaken and actually took a couple of hours to chat about it so I'm feeling relief and a renewed enthusiasm to get the job done (up)
I am going to work for another hour and a half and then go for a run with the dog. Unfortunately, tomorrow is going to be taken up with mostly non-PhD stuff but hopefully I'll get 3-4 productive hours in.
Goal 5: type up meeting notes and send to supervisor.
You could just pit something really cryptic and understated, like...hmmm...'To the people that helped with with my thesis, thanks' and then to stick the knife into lazy sups and the undeserved then put, 'You know how you are'.
hahahaaaaaaaaaa walmiskipies
By the way.. do we need to show our acknowledgments to our supervisors to correct too?!!!! or is that the only part that they dont have to correct?
I don't think you show your sup the acknowledgements - I think its supposed to be kinds of a surprise for them - and its a personal thing, not an academic thing. I think mine will mostly be about my dog. She gets me out into the sunshine twice a day and lets me sleep on her bed when I get drowsy :-):-):-) she might also proof read it if I'm lucky (up)
Personally I'm going to save doing them until the very last moment - its kind of a superstition type thing I think for me.
right, managed a mere two pages, with one discussion idea written out in full, with references!! thats me for the night though! I can't take anymore.....! Hope you've all managed to meet some goals, keep smiling, AL x
