Hey Ev, I'm sure you won't be in trouble, hopefully the things you've been doing will just have put you in a good position to work out what it is you really want to look at! Fingers crossed anyway.
I have achieved goal one and am part way through my second goal of the day, in a very inefficient and disorganised way. There's something about Saturdays that always means I'm slower, even if I'm trying to treat it like a normal working day. Oh well!
Hey Ev, I think everyone goes through patches of doing things that are not related to the PhD e.g. committee work, lecturing, tutoring, any other work for proper cash!
Not doing too well today. I've had to ferry my hubs around the county so he can go to the pub with his dad, so practiced my presentation a few times but Goal 2 hasn't been touched!
Hi everyone, first time post so please bare with me.
I have 7.5 months left until I must submit my thesis, so have been spending a lot of time working... or procrastinating... not sure which! Come across this forum and thought I'd jump in, I'm going through my notes today and adding them to my thesis today... It's turning out to be a lot more boring and time consuming job than I thought it was going to be...:-s
Hope everyone is having a wonderful day!
Hmm, I'm running out of steam now. Stil not really finished goal 2 although I amalgamated all my notes with the stuff I've started for goal 3 so it's hard to tell them apart any more. Maybe I'll count that as having reached goal 2, even though that's probably cheating. Gah. My head's spinning from all this, so I'm going to do a different piece of work for a couple of hours, then go and meet my boyfriend in the pub. I feel like I've earned a drink!
Thanks for the reassurance Batfink and Sneaks. I actually feel a little bit more confident about my work having spent the afternoon reading several theses along the same vein as mine. Maybe all is not lost after all.
Good job you two on achieving at least some of your goals - it is the weekend after all. I am signing off for the evening as I'm out for dinner tonight to celebrate my mum's birthday. Batfink enjoy your time in the pub. And Sneaks good luck with your presentation - maybe you can take a bit of time to yourself when it's behind you!!!
welcome Pink_numbers - I have given you a star for posting on my wonderful thread!
I am very jealous though, I also have about 7 months left, but no thesis to speak of yet :-(
Oh and welcome Pinknumbers - I'm sure you'll find the forum useful, I certainly have!!! Have a welcome sprout (sprout)
well I'm STILL waiting around for a phone call from hubby to pick him up from the pub :-s I don't mind picking him up, but would like to know a VAGUE time, so I could actually get into work/watch a film etc etc
When he IS back I will subject him to my presentation another few times
Thank you for a warm welcome and stars and sprouts! ha ha.
Sneaks, it's very dedicated of you to be waiting around to pick up your hubby!
I didn't really have a document that I could call a thesis until errrr, this week! couple of weeks back, I got an email telling me that I only had 8 months to go (and I though I had like a year and a half!). Been rushing to build up a thesis since! I've been making a Frankenstein from the papers I've written... it looks awful, but I least I can tell my sup "wooooo I have x teen thousand words done already"... no editing has been done though!
Ev - it's always helpful to see how other's are doing what you are doing isn't it?
I am dying to get to a life style where a weekend actually counts as weekends!
Pink_Numbers - yikes, going from a year and a half to eight months must have been a shock! Good luck with it anyway. I'm sort of dreading getting to that stage, the slog of it isn't appealing, though maybe the thought that it's nearly over will help....
Today, I am going to get as much of my paper written as possible. If I could get a complete rough draft done that would be brilliant, but I doubt I'll get quite that far. Something to aim for though! Right, to work I go...
Batfink27 - it's actually been a relief! I was umming and erring about so many things, spending more time worrying about if I could write a thesis, etc. before. Now, I just got to get things done, no time to waste on unnecessary worrying. It's also very satisfying seeing work getting done so quickly now.
How did you get on with your paper?
I had a lazy day off, so only printed a very good thesis out and had a good read. The rest of the day was spent on gardening and going to local farmers' markets :D
Gah, still working away and nowhere near done. I've achieved a lot - done about 2,200 words today, which feel like a lot even if it doesn't sound that much - the problem is just that there's too much to do by Tuesday, which is when my supervisors want me to send this to them, and I'm at a three-day conference from Wednesday so can't even really overrun the deadline without ending up a whole week late. My other half promised me that if I went to bed the PhD fairies would do it for me while I slept, but I think he may have been winding me up.... :-)
I've met all my goals, including doing my presentation for my research seminar. I've got more data collection tomorrow - but at least it's just numbers to plug into a database with no more transcribing.
